Finding and understanding your body type

my new waistcoat

Actually a few months old but the first time I'd worn it as it has been too cold. For about an hour it was warmer so I wore it to take my daughters to ballet (to pick her up it had got cold again)

Here is the front view http://s297.photobucket.com/al.....4586807944

Here is the side view (not as good) http://s297.photobucket.com/al.....0_7415.jpg

Did many of you see Imogen's post on side views - round and Elliptical body types?

Mine is definitely round. I feel like I could be 4 months preggers!

Anne, I like the waistcoat on you! What I like about my vest is that it adds structure to my soft side view.

Cute vest, Anne. I missed that post abotu side views. I'm not sure what I am. I didn't know you were a dance mom too- my dd has been dancing for going on 5 years now.

Anne, that waistcoat looks great! That's what I've been looking for and have yet to find. You look like a very fab MOTG!

Anne, it looks great! I'm also very round - probably about 6 months pregnant!

Great waistcoat! You look fab :0)

And thank you for saying "waistcoat".

Thanks everyone,

Shana, I think my "depth" comes from my bottom a fair bit too...

The think it I am not really appl-y - the reason I look pregnant is because I am long waisted and it flares out over my large rib cage.

Khris - unlike you I am just a beginning ballet Mum !DD6 has learnt for 21/2 years and DD3 for 6 months - just one lesson a week, although the older one had some extra classes recently when she took her first exam.

Anne, I have the same issue with a small bust and large rib cage! My rib measurement under bust is 34" and goes straight down. Finally at my belly button, I get a nice "small" measurement of 32". I don't consider myself to be carrying much "extra" ... I *think* its my structure. And my high hip bone isn't far below the bottom rib, so Imogen's post for the H-shape helped me realize exactly why I never have a defined waist. My only curves are my behind, so I am happy about having some curves!

Cricket, interesting - I am pretty sure that I am not an H - and from the front view I do have an defined waist. Like you though, there isn't much between my underbust and waist. Somewhere between 1 and 3 inches difference, since my waist measurement varies

I relly like to look of it on you. I think I'm going to have to get one too!

I LOVE your waistcoat! You look very chic - when it's cold, you would look great with a scarf and boots added!

Oh just wait Anne- we are up to classes three days a week this year LOL You know, they don't do the exams here at most schools like the do in the UK and Australia. Different teaching methods, I guess.

Very cute. I like the shape of your waistcoat.
I just saw a link for one made in San Francisco which I think is nice too.

Thanks for nice comments everyone.

Either everyone is being polite or this whole rib cage thing is just a problem for Cricket and me!

San, I just say this vest design which I love http://www.ezibuy.com.au/Women.....50531.shtm
It is too pricy for me though

Khris - I have got the feeling that you were pretty committed ballet wise! We have a little situation with end of year concerts this year; DD6 does acrobatics at a different dance school ( I wanted her to do gymnastics but it isn't available in our town, so that was the closest thing) which means they'll have different concerts in towns in opposite directions.(each 1/2 an hour away from where we live which is a town without a big enough venue) I am rather inclined to say she can only do one, but we haven't decided which one yet!

Anne, your waistcoat is gorgeous on you at all angles! I'm so glad that you found one that you like.

I thought Imogen's post was interesting because I really hadn't thought about my body shape quite like that before. I am very much an "elliptical" body shape and look much wider from straight-on than I do from the side. It explains some of the weird fit quirks I've noticed, such as my ability to get a muffin top at the sides of my hips but still have the waistband gape at the small of my back.

Kari - I saw your comment on Imogen's blog. Since I have read it I have started categorizing people like that in my head!

Despite being opposite to you I have, in some outfits - the same quirk - muffin top and back gape (I have a low slung bottom and a swayback so I think that accounts for it
