I have been looking for a pair of straight leg dark wash jeans for flats. I've tried on a lot of jeans and found I sometimes liked the scrunch and sometimes I didn't. Wondering why this was the case I broke out my measuring tape and started measuring the circumference of the ankle openings. What I discovered was that the jeans with scrunch that looked sloppy to me (the scrunch seemed to travel all the way to the knee and pooled in an awkward way over my foot) had a 16 inch opening. These openings seemed to be borderline straight leg and slim boot cut to me and don't seem to work as either except maybe with heels because of where the front of the jean fell on the top of my foot. The jeans with scrunch I preferred had a 14-15 inch opening. Is there a difference in the way a scrunch looks to you? I'm sure this depends on how long your foot is and how tall you are. I'm on the short side at 5'3". Also I'm still wondering about straight leg lengths and heels. If I get straight legs hemmed for flats (with 14" opening) can I wear them with heels too?
