OK, here it is. Sorry for the wet hair. I always take pictures after a shower!

For those who weren't aware, April was sweet enough to send me this necklace in exchange for the Cheap Monday jeans I sent her. Both of us immediately pictured it with my Shiny dress, and this is how I wore it to a nice restaurant on Mother's Day.

So basically this whole outfit ended up costing me about $20 (what I paid for the shoes), hehe.

Truly. I love the necklace and the dress on you and hope you find many opportunities to wear both, separately or together. The necklace absolutely suits you. I can picture it as part of an edgier outfit as well, for example with a white tee and black vest/waistcoat.

Hm I think Shiny is still away. Hopefully she will see her dress at work, although to be honest the only difference between how I wore it when I first tried it and how I'm wearing it here is the necklace, hehe.

I will probably be wearing it again this Saturday to a friend's 24th birthday. Any ideas on how to reinvent it? I'm afraid I'm just not very good at making non-casual outfits.

I think if you wear a more casual necklace, a denim jacket and sandals, you'll have a good smart casual outfit.

Alas, I think it is going to be too hot for a jacket or even a cardigan. The party is going to be held outdoors. Although this is the second time someone has recommended a denim jacket for an outfit, so I think maybe it's time to investigate that.

Casual necklace (I have a wood bead and turquoise one) and Brulees sound good though.

I can't thank Shiny enough for this dress. It is a great option to have, and April's necklace is the cherry on top! Ah what would I do without YLF

Maya, I was thinking a denim jacket would be perfect, I just forgot to add it. Definitely look into it. It would even work with a dramatic necklace. Plus, you could easily work a denim jacket into outfits with your new stirrup leggings.

Wow, I know we've seen you in this dress before, but I still can't get over how stunning it is on you. I love it with the "April necklace!"

This is pretty close in length and (to my eyes) similar in style to the cobalt dress that Angie demonstrated with leggings a couple weeks back - would leggings work under this dress too?

I could try it with leggings. I am shorter than Angie and the dress is silk and shiny in person so I don't know if it would look too jarring, but I will try.

Tam, I have a red moto jacket but it didn't look so nice over this jacket. I think it's going to be too hot for a jacket anyway. It doesn't have to be casual, but I just want to find different ways of wearing it.

I have few suggestions on how to make it more casual other than what's been mentioned, other than perhaps pairing with neutral flat sandals and some bangly bracelets? Perhaps in wood or stone? I.e., make all the accessories neutral and muted and earthy. What do you think?

One thing I never see on YLF is straw bags for summer. I used to always have a straw bag (not a beach bag, just a pretty straw handbag). Would you do anything like that?

Funny you should mention that Shiny. I was just looking at all these fabulous beach bags on Anthropologie (one of which I love and it's only $38). But they are beach bags, which as you mentioned, aren't quite right. it inspired me to look up more straw bags on shopstyle, and there are some truly beautiful onse out there! Of course, once I limited them to the ones in my price range, it eliminated almost everything :p

I'll probably be wearing my brulees and my turquoise + wood bead necklace. Bags always give me a headache because my bag collection is, well, sad. I need to work on it for sure.

I almost fell from my chair - this is how fabulous you looked in your yellow dress and red necklace! Wow! This might be my favorite outfit of yours!

In addition to straw bags, you might want to look into canvas bags. There are tons of very cheap canvas bags around, and you can buy one in a very cheerful color and use it for the whole summer. At the end of the summer, if it is hopelessly stained, you can just toss it.

The dress with brulees and wood bead necklace sounds great too!

Thank you Hannah! I have a few canvas bags but they're more tote-like so not great for a party situation. I do not wear clutches or wristlets because I am EXTREMELY prone to losing them. I can't tell you how many of my personal belongings are now the property of public transportation systems all over the eastern seaboard. If I lost my bag I would be an absolute wreck.

April, I also think "collection" is not quite the word. I have a hard time with bags because I will not wear leather anywhere but on my feet, and I do not have the budget for expensive Matt and Nat bags, so most of my bags end up looking cheap or casual. Perhaps after our vegan lunch outing we can go bag shopping!
