wow - you are such a travel capsule goddess! the capsule for your roundtrip last year was both impressive and amazing! this is perfection and I'm taking notes as I'm going to London in May. What is your purpose and how long are you staying? I'll be following your posts!

I think you have come up with a great capsule for London. I have been there a little later in the season and I think your looks will blend in just fine.

Great capsule, Suz! I would definitely take both pairs of booties. You'll be there for a week and you'll want to switch out to give your feet a break. Have you worn the navy sheath yet? I would give it a test drive and see if it bags, especially if you are planning on wearing it again during your stay. How about your trusty black knit dress for the plane?

Thanks again, all - and you've given me more points to ponder.

Joy, I hope I'm not crazy to think I can wear those Pettys for long stretches of time. Hmmm. This might be tougher than I thought! Footwear - travel nemesis! Especially for the likes of me, incapable of wearing true flats. Well, certainly incapable of wearing ballet flats.

Salt & Starlight - I agree my legs look really pale. It is a problem! I may not actually be wearing the micro fishnets in the pics, to be fair….I was changing into and out of a lot of clothes. If the hose were on the legs would probably look a bit more "made up" (though just as pale).

I like the navy or black darker or more opaque tights for cold weather but also find them a "heavy" and unspring-like look. So I do want to bring a variety.

I could add a belt for #14, and might do so. Or an extra topper. The truth is, I would be unlikely to wear it as is…only if the weather turned unexpectedly warm.

Good points about light footwear and travel. I do feel concerned about that, although March is the driest month in London. The snakeskin booties have a lower heel which might be why they shorten my leg line a bit. I hear you about the flats. Sadly, flats are about the WORST shoes for me possible. I could potentially wear an oxford (but don't currently own one) but I can't wear ballet flats comfortably - they fall off my feet. And I definitely need more than one pair of shoes -- alternating is a lifesaver for me.

Thanks Fashioncat and Denise!

Jayne - I couldn't agree more about having a choice of footwear. For me it is worth it to skimp on something else if I can include another pair of shoes for the trip!

Thanks, lyn and Carolbee!

Harmonica, I am accompanying my husband to a conference. He will be working and I may have to attend some events with him. But mostly we will just be going to galleries, theatre, and WALKING - which we do for hours whenever we travel.

Thanks, Ceit.

Debora, great idea. I wore the sheath for a while yesterday to test it and it didn't seem to bag out, but you never really know until you've put it through a full day.

Thanks again, all - these are great thoughts to ponder.

Suz: Your outfits are stellar and you've made the most of the versatility of every item! I have one

Will you be happy repeating the pencil skirt this much? As a creative type, I crave variety. As I look as these gorgeous outfits I think that your slouchy jeans, and perhaps one more lightweight top would open up a lot of possibilities. Now --- many people like the ease of limited choices on vacation -- one less thing to worry about! You may be firmly in the limits over variety camp.

Beth Ann - I am still considering whether to bring a pair of skinny black moto pants and/or a pair of jeans...but my beloved jeans are lighter wash and distressed and slouchy and there were mixed views on whether that would be appropriate.

I don't need a lot of variety in one week -- for me, just wearing a skirt at all is variety since at home I am in jeans almost every day!

When you say lightweight top, what do you mean?

You set the bar high for travely capsules! I'm afraid to leave the country now! All of these are so polished and stylish, Suz! I have nothing to add. You look fantabulous, chic and so gorgeous!

My goodness Suz - this capsule is nothing short of brilliant! Navy and taupe are so perfect together and perfect on you. That leather jacket is going to be a true workhorse for you.

I like the way all of these pieces play together and think the black booties and the python booties both work equally well. If you have room, I would consider bringing your skinny black moto pants just as one other option.

Suz, I'm just in awe of both your travel capsule and your planning ability. Each piece is so versatile and the ways you have combined them is nothing short of ingenious. You look modern, stylish and comfortable in every outfit here, and that is so important for travel. I could not choose a favourite if I tried.

I always pack myself a hoard of clothes it is just terrible. And then the shoes, many pairs. And I end up wearing Birkenstocks every day! We are going to Europe for three weeks this summer and I should really start thinking about a plan. Thank you for the inspiration.

It seems to me that no matter how well you take care of your feet, and how comfortable your footwear is, when you travel for sight seeing and adventure, you walk so much more that your feet will still take some abuse.

I usually hit up a Body Shop for their peppermint foot scrub and use it every night as a treat. Though I travel light, I do put together a little first aid kit with band aids, ointment, etc.

Suz, you already have so much great input I just wanted to say I think your capsule looks beautiful and perfect for the trip! I hope you have a wonderful time!

Thanks, Tex! And Runcaria - that is such good advice. I ALWAYS take a foot first aid pack with bandages, etc. And I usually wear a prophylactic bandaid if I think there is a spot that rubs. But changing my footwear up has been my best solution ever. I am used to walking a lot in my ordinary life but when I travel I walk that much more -- usually many miles per day.

Hi there Suz. I'm a long time lurker on the ylf forum and just HAD to sign up to comment on your awesome travel capsule.

I was in London/Paris from the end of Feb to the end of March last year so am quite familiar with the agony of choosing a workable travel wardrobe - it's lot of work but well worth the effort. The weather is likely to swing from cold winter days (think beanie and gloves!) to beautiful warm and clear spring days at that time of year. The outfits you have put together are absolutely perfect for springtime in London, except you're just not gonna need the short sleeved tshirt - even on the nicest spring day it will still be a little cool in the city. I would instead swap it for a light cardigan that can be worn early/late in the day but is light enough to be easily popped in your handbag when it warms up in the middle of the day or while inside overheated stores.

I just adore the trench coat you're taking - love, love, love it and glad to see you have a crossbody bag - I learnt the hard way that they are the only bag really suitable for long days schlepping around in the city. Hope you have a fab time!

DizzyLizzy - I always love it when lurkers come out of lurking!! Thank you so much for your helpful comments.

Yes! I have been in London in March. And it was bitter cold there the year I went! I froze. FROZE. BUT...that year I was also packing for Israel and most of my clothes were cotton/ linen. So while I had layers, they were not the right layers. I think with woolens and blends I am better covered, so to speak.

I see the short sleeved shirt as a layering piece - it would only go under toppers except in a freak weather accident (i.e. summer temps unexpectedly -- which happened to me in NY last year, so I need to be aware!)

I do have a few other options. I don't own a card as a matter of fact - just don't wear them! But I do have a lighter knit jacket I might bring. Or a denim jacket.

Thank BJ for that trench! Do you know that she generously sent it to me because it was not working for her! And I LOVE it!!!

Suz, definitely bring the slouchy skinnies then. I think you need more casual stuff. You will be the most stylish lady there. Enjoy your trip!!!!

Suz, dont know how I missed this. You and Sveta are inspiring me to lift the bar with my travelmcapsule! And you must be leaving v soon... so have a fab time and look forward toharingnthe highlights! Jen

What a beautiful and well-thought-out capsule. I think it's killer. I'd toss in your amazing slouchy skinnies if you have room, just in case you want them--they're more casual and also lighter-colored, so they'd quench two possible cravings, should they arise. (I'm so tired and inarticulate tonight!) What about your taupe linen sweatshirt sweater thingie for another lighter-colored, lightweight option?

I'm so glad you got the snakeskin booties--they were made for you (and Angie).

I really love #14 and 17 and your booties. What do SE and SW stand for again?

Suz, I am at awe. What a great capsule, you look wonderful (please, may I scream) WONDERFUL!

You are ready to take on London. And further.

That jacket is absolutely amazing and I truly believe it deserves a summary thread of its own some day - sort of "THE Power of the right piece" I have never seen - so obviously - how one item adds a whole new dimension to the outfit. I am truly blown away away it and by your style.

Now I'm off to actually read what you've written because I skipped the whole text and just browsed the images.

ETA:
Here are my views:

Here's my view on the things you asked about:

1-4: Travel outfit: I think you should travel in this skirt, even if you fear it will bag out. Skimming, stretchy dress is a wonder. Because it is knit dress I am guessing you can wash it in cold water at your destination with no need for ironing and it will get its previous shape, if you're too worried and don't need the dress the next day immediately.
Photo 1 - it is so chic! Everything is so simple and sophisticated and ticks all my boxes.

5-6: The layers I see are button down, striped top and the coat. I think you will not be too warm, can always wear skirt if the forecast is good and of course if your handbag allows it then you can always take off one of the tops.

7-8, 9-10: Beautiful. Period. Trench or no trench, that will the forecast say.

11-12: Amazing how just change of hose gives different vibe. The tops are great too.

The rest are amazing too, and the contrasting shirt in 18 is divine.

I have noticed a fair amount of tops, you really are covered.

In fact, I am pretty sure will copy paste this thread and use as my travel capsule as we're visiting my MIL over Easter holidays.

SE = Sam Edelman
SW = Stuart Weitzman

Suz, I am in awe of your outfit planning. I think this is an incredibly cohesive capsule for traveling.

I am not sure how this thread got revived but I wanted to thank the later posters for their comments and add that the timing is great as I get ready to pack for my trip!

Here is something funny. My husband needs me to take the big suitcase! Yes - I had a capsule that went in a carry on, but he has too much for his large suitcase and needs me to bring mine so he can stash his overflow with me!!!

So that means if I want to I can bring my slouchy skinnies. But I'm still thinking I'll take my printed pants instead.

Thanks again, all, for your wise input and kind compliments. I feel the really good about this travel capsule and thoroughly prepared.

Wow Suz!! I think these all look amazing!! Your travel outfit looks great! I'd stick with layers over the top, as the temperature on planes varies so much, so I'd want the freedom to take a layer off if necessary. Are you hoping for an upgrade?!!

I didn't realize this was an older thread! Ha.
Wow, these are great! You might also want to toss in "our" multicolored scarf for another changing-it-up accessory option!
