La Canadienne suede ankle boots

After an extensive online search for warm weatherproof ankle booties to wear with jeans, I ordered La Canadienne Evitta waterproof suede ankle boots:

They fit well, are quite comfortable and wonderfully warm, but as pricey as they are, I want to make sure everything's *perfect* before I keep them. I have several questions:

1. They are advertised as waterproof suede. Does anyone have experience with LC waterproof suede? Are they really waterproof? And do they stay that way? Would I need to have them re-waterproofed every season?

2. How does LC suede hold up? In my experience, suede doesn't have near the longevity of smooth leather. For $209, I want to wear these boots for at least 5 years!!

3. These boots have a wedge heel, which I am not used to. In fact, I nearly turned my ankle just walking around in my house with them. Does one get used to a wedge? I've read that people with a high arch (like me) should avoid wedges because our feet tend to roll out and we're more prone to turning our ankles because wedges are less flexible in the sole. Any input on this?

Wow. You’ve really thought about these boots!

They are absolutely waterproof, Becky. Trust me. I’ve stomped around in puddles with LC’s. 5 years is a tall order. It totally depends on how hard you are on your shoes and how often you wear them. If you wear them every day in Winter, they will look shabby faster, which suede does anyway (to your point).

Unfortunately I have no input on the wedge part of the story. I find low wedges extremely easy to walk in and I have fussy feet. Hope that helps.

If it helps, I have brown suede leather boots of unknown brand (thrifted) except that they were made in England that I've worn on the snowiest, sloppiest days for years. I just brush them gently when they are dry. I won't say they look new, but they don't look worn either. Brown may be more forgiving than black, however.
My arches are high enough that shoes with high vamps and even tie athletic shoes are uncomfortable at the top of my foot unless tied quite loosely. I love wedges, especially as compared to heels. The boots you bought look like they would be fine for walking, but you definitely want to feel stable in them. Maybe the heel is too loose or the boot too wide for your foot?

Absolutely I would purchase those boots, i like la canadienne, i trust their weatherproofing.

I agree with Angie, five years is a tall order for everyday or strenuous wear boots.

I have, unfortunately, a very high arch and wear almost exclusively wedge heels, and do fine. Your boot has what looks like a mini wedge, I definitely think your foot will adapt to it.

Thanks for the input, ladies. After letting the question simmer for a couple of days, I've decided to return the LC's, primarily because of the price, and try some less expensive alternatives. *sigh* I'll try again next year for LC's if I have the funds. I *still* think I prefer smooth leather, for a variety of reasons, but so much of what's available now is suede.
