Julia's new pearl necklace

I'm on a tight budget now so I can't buy too many things. I'm focusing on accessories so I can spend the least to make the most impact. However I don't want to compromise the look so it's hard to get real good ones.

I have this single strand 16' pearl necklace my parents gave to me a few years ago. They look outdated even though they are authenticate. I tried to reinvent it with a brooch. Does it look tacky or stylish?

Could you show us a picture of you wearing the pearls, face blocked out if you wish? I'm wondering how it hangs with the brooch.

Joy has a point about making sure it hangs right, but I think it it's a great idea and looks very sharp.

Good point Joy. Here's a picture of me wearing it. I have to pair it with a longer one to make it look better so I might have answered part of the question myself.

I think your necklaces look great! Very creative.

Julia -- I like the combination it's funky and classy both. It seems like you would want to wear it with a simple top to show off the necklace. Maybe a top like you are wearing with an unbuttoned cardigan so that there is a long line for the necklace.

It looks great! I don't think you'd always need to wear the longer necklace with it, especially for a more formal occasion. It looks great with the neckline of the top you have on. Besides black, you could use it with any jewel tones and black and white herringbone or check or tweed...maybe with a Chanel style jacket, depending on the neckline?

Fantastic - gives me great ideas for brooches I don't wear. I too would love to know how you attached it Julia and does the pin of the brooch scratch on your skin?

Awh thanks a lot for your approvals everybody! It's officially a new necklace now.

Ana and Sihaya, I just clipped the pin in between two of the pearls and it doesn't scratch on my skin because it's quite smooth on the back of the pin. This worked because the pearls are really tight together. Depends on what pieces you want to work on, you might need to find other ways make it stay put.

aj and Joy, love your suggestions about what to wear with it. Chanel jacket is a good idea but I don't have one in my closet and there's nothing there close enough for me to 'reinvent' it. I really like the idea though.
