Is this coat Killer?

Hi ladies! I purchased this coat last weekend and tomorrow is the last day I can qualify for the price adjustment. I apologize for the poor pictures. I've been sick as a dog with food poisoning since this past Saturday.
I love the coat, but for that price I want to make sure it is the *best* option for me.
I was thinking I could get some colorful scarves to add color. I want to stay away from black coats, but am not quite adventorous enough to commit to a bright color this go around. I do not have any warm coats other than this one. Maybe next year I can get one colored coat in addition?

That coat is an absolute killer in my opinion. Both the color and the fit are superb!

Sarah, I love the coat. But does it have a collar? It looks like it doesn't and as I'm looking at your pics, I keep feeling like you need a collar.

PS I've been wondering where you were because I feel like we are usually online at the same time. I hope you're feeling better and that the food poisoning wasn't a result of turkey day.

My only concern is the length. It seems like it might be a tiny bit short to wear with skirts/dresses? But if you are comfortable with the length, it's a beautiful coat! (And you have great legs so that's not a problem!)

I definitely want to wear the coat with skirts/dresses and pants. Is the length not quite right for both?

I think the food poisoning was from Thanksgiving unfortunately. About five people at the gathering ended up getting sick but I'm the lucky one who's had it this long.

I love it on you. I like the length, I think it makes it kind of flirty. And you have really nice legs, so it's a good thing to show them off.

Can you post a pic of the coat with a typical skirt or dress you would wear it with? (I think it's considered okay to have your coat a bit shorter, so it all depends on how you like the look.)

Angie just curious...why a 9 and not a 10? If I'm going to pay this much, I want it to be fab.

The coat is so pretty, and it looks great on you. I agree with GG's comment about it making a nice contrast with your dark hair. Angie has mentioned previously that she prefers black buttons on white coats. Could that be the difference between a 9 and a 10, maybe?

Okay, here are more photos. I'm wearing a skirt length that I typically wear (slightly above the knee). Some dresses are even a teensy bit shorter, but this is my average skirt length.

Also, I took a photo of my new Quinn cami (the dark slate silk ruffle blouse). I realize it isn't best with the color OR shape of the skirt I had on, but I just wanted to show you. I think I will wear this to my husband's Christmas party since the venue changed to a club/bowling alley. Any recommendations on what bottom or jewelry to wear with it? Cardigan or jacket? I do have a cream jacket that I thrifted several weeks ago. It has buttons with crystals on them...

I am with everyone else, you look amazing in the white coat!! Elegant and stylish are the 2 words that come to mind.

It has also taken me awhile to get used to the idea that my coat can be shorter than the item underneath it. Seeing it on you, love the look. Not sure I can pull it off as well as you do but I will try next time I buy a coat.

The coat IS fab, Sarah. 9’s and 10’s = fabulous. You are well within your right to ask why this particular cream coat didn’t score a killer rating with me. I’ve seen it in store and believe that it would have been even nicer with a contrasting button. In my opinion, cream coats look particularly nice with a bit of depth (black or tortoise shell buttons would add the necessary depth). BUT! It’s still a beautiful coat and it looks great with the skirt ensemble you’ve posted. Hope that makes sense

That's my coat, but in cream - so of course I'm going to say it's KILLER.

I agree with those who've said that the cream looks great with your dark hair, although I do agree with Angie that having dark buttons just does something to up it a notch. Changing buttons is such an easy thing to do, and the quality of the Jcrew coats are worth the minimum extra $ if you decide to do it.

I am finding the length of the Madeline coat to be perfect, especially for jeans!! That may just be me, since I have shorter legs (I got the petite - so I think the scale is the exact same as on you).

Did you get it with thinsulate? If you think it is warm enough (and mine has thinsulate so it is perfect for weather in the 30s and 40s), then I say keep it, and if you want to make it an 11 instead of a 9, just buy some darker buttons and sew them on yourself! The quality is definetly worth the extra effort, IMO. I am really loving my madeline and I'm very glad I decided to keep it. Hope you end up feeling the same way too!

I love the coat on you, and I adore the color. I have always wanted a cream coat, and I think it looks great with your coloring.

I have owned two J. Crew winter coats and found them well worth the money. The first coat I bought was a charcoal plaza coat that I got in 2000. I lost weight a few years ago, so I gave it to my mom, and she still wears it--eight years later! Two years ago I bought one of their double cloth coats (I think that's what they call the fabric--the website is down, so I can't check), and it's still going strong as well.

I definitely think they are worth the money.

What a wonderful idea, shiny! I might just do that. I need to replace some buttons on a JCrew jacket I thrifted, so I might just scour the buttons and see what I come up with.
I did not get the thinsulate (I don't need a super warm coat, just one warmer than my Express trench coat), but the coat feels and looks so elegant to me.

dee, the party is at a bowling alley, but it's actually a club with a bowling alley in it. So it's still festive and more dressy than your average place. But I will probably bowl or at least play pool or something, so jeans is a good idea.

Well, I took the plunge! I went ahead and ordered the coat again online since it was an additional 30% off the sale price (well below what I paid in-store-but now I can't return it). I'll return the one I currently have today. I definitely want to play around with different buttons. I like the look of all cream IF I have an interesting outfit underneath. But I definitely see the value of colored/textured buttons.
Shiny, I can't remember, do you have the blue color coat? I love the dark poppy color. Maybe they'll have one next year in that color!
The Christmas party is at a club/bowling alley/pool hall type place. I want to wear the Quinn cami. Does anyone have any ideas of what accessories or cardigans/jackets/shoes? I'm going to look for ideas while I'm out today. I don't want to wear a necklace that would take away from the blouse detailing.

I'm glad you kept it. It's lovely. I don't really know exactly what would go with the cami, but I immediately thought of the color yellow when I saw the picture. So maybe something yellow?

LOVE the coat. I love that it is shorter than your skirt, too. It gives your outfit depth. I like everything about it!!

I have to agree with the comments on the quality of jcrew coats. I have the Lille coat. What I really like about it is that the belt is inside the coat in the back, so it has a very clean line and no extra bulk.
