Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

I'm back! (Help me choose a belt)

Good morning, lovely YLF ladies! Some of you might have noticed I've been absent from the forums for the past month. I wasn't traveling or anything, but on a self-imposed "internet break" for most of August. Other than keeping up with my own three blogs, I spent very little time online, focusing instead on some other things I've got going on.

So, I'm very happy to be back (I missed you all!) and I've got a question for you. Back when I bought this dress for my friend's wedding in October, Angie suggested I find a skinny vintage belt to wear with it. I loved the idea so have been on the hunt, but with minimal success so far. The actual vintage ones don't seem to work very well, and I haven't found one that fits in terms of size, price and style yet. On top of that I'd quite like a patent version to add some shine and match my shoes, and I'm finding it difficult to find vintage patent in good condition.

BUT, I was in town yesterday and found two options on the high street:

First, this Banana Republic style. I think the bit with metal post is actually the front, but I'd wear it the other way around, with the knot-thing at the front. I like the embossed texture of this one, and it has a vintage-y "feel", at least.

The other option is this Ted Baker belt. Much more modern, this one would give a different feel to the dress, but I still like it.

So, what's your vote? Are either of these winners, or would you keep looking?

Welcome back!

The dress is lovely and I prefer the first belt, both belts are dark and so, as this one has a different texture it would pop..

However I would choose a different dress, maybe

Great to have you back, Ele! I’ve missed you too. Nice that you had a break though - I had a two week break in South Africa recently as well. (Perhaps you saw the posts last week?).

LOVE the first belt. That gets my vote. How are doing with accessories?

Yep, another vote for the first belt. I love that it adds some extra textural interest to the outfit!

I liked the first belt as well.

Ok, looks like you all like the mock crock belt, good to know! For some reason I was expecting more people to go for the second one, not sure why. It's lovely in person but I agree that the first one gives more textural interest, especially with an all-black outfit.

Rute, thanks so much for your thoughts, but I think I'm sticking with the black dress. I totally get that it won't be everyone's cup of tea, but I love it. It's much nicer in person, and I think the crowd at this wedding will appreciate the retro-fabness of it ;)

Angie, I did see your posts! I was letting myself have an hour every few days to browse my "usual" blogs and sites, just no commenting or mindless internet-exploration! (I swear, blogs can be so addictive!) It looks like you and Greg had a great time in SA- your photos are lovely!

Hmm, not going so well with the accessories hunt so far. No luck with a necklace yet, but I think I'll tackle that last. Next on my list is a bright oversized clutch. Maybe I'll round some up online and post them here.
