How to wear a sweater dress?

I just bought a sweater dress from Esprit.com http://www.espritshop.com/ called the attractive dress with stylish zig zag pattern (ha!)

I have wanted a zigzag pattern dress forever but now I am doubting myself...is it too young-ish for a 45 yo gal like me?

It arrived yesterday and it is seriously too hot to try on so no pic of me modeling it. I did for a mere moment to check fit and...it fits! Nice fit on the top, cute 3/4 sleeves and it hits about an inch above my knees. The fabric is really nice. Its very low in the front so requires some sort of layer.

It is clearly too warm to wear the dress NOW but when it cools down, I am thinking leggings and ballet flats. When full fall weather hits, black knee boots and maybe layer a long-sleeve tee under it? After this, I am stumped...how else can I style it? I'm very casual so I'm looking for casual ideas.

Marlene, I looked up the dress on Esprit's website and it's very cute. Which color did you get? I'd imagine that camis would work well underneath it, or a 3/4 length top if you are colder in the fall. I hope you'll show us how it looks on you!

I noticed that the green-printed ress looks much shorter on the model than the black/white dress (maybe one model is taller than the other?) When you're wearing it, is the dress a length that you'd be comfortable wearing with hose/boots underneath as opposed to leggings, which are usually thicker?

If it's short enough, you could pair it with skinny jeans- a turtleneck under and a blazer on top for cold weather.

I am 5'6" and it hits just above my knee. I think its at the length where I would feel comfortable wearing it with hose/boots. When I get a picture of it on my actual body, we can see if it would be too short. I am definitely not the height of a leggy model!

I got the black version since I think it would be more wearable with the other stuff in my closet. I'm not a "green" person.

Skinny jeans...that would work very nice! The skirt is slightly A-line so it wouldn't be as clingy on my backside. Backside clingy-ness has been a problem I have had with tunics etc.

Very Missoni and a tad boho! Really need to see a picture Marlene, because these types of dresses have the tendency to cling in ways we'd prefer them not to. So let’s see it on once its cooled down.
