how to wear a structured jacket?

I found this great (glen plaid?) jacket at BR this weekend...what do you think? Also...rule of thumb with wearing one? I know that guys never button the bottom button...do girls? I like it buttoned because it gives me more waist, but I think it looks a bit odd in the picture.
Also...I wouldn't wear it over a tie neck blouse, because the neck lines conflict?

Hi Taffy - you should always leave the last button unbuttoned - yes even for women and I would not wear it with the tie neck blouse for the reason you mention. The second blouse works fine. I like your jeans! The fit of the jacket looks a little loose - around the armpits? Or am I just not seeing that right because it's a picture - how does it feel on you - does it sit/fit right?

Interesting, I never knew that rule. I just bought my husband a suit with a three-button coat, and he was explaining this rule to me. But I just thought he was crazy. And now it applies for women, too!

Thanks Christie! I have to admit I use it for trickery!! I always take my pictures at dusk outside. The light is more forgiving, and the green background never hurts with my complexion!

Sihaya...it's the first one I've ever owned. It felt more comfortable than the others I tried on. And it's not constricting when I move my arms. Is there a certain spot in relation to the body that the arm opening should be?

Hi Taffy - Angie might be able to articulate this better than me. You're right on to try out the arm movement and make sure they're free and clear. And in the photo, the jacket looks a bit bunched up around your armpit and chest area - I can't tell if that's just the photo or a fit issue - try pulling the jacket down hard and then see if there's a bunch up effect.

ok, I pulled it down hard, and then it looks fine, but after I wiggle a bit it does bunch up. I was looking at the arm holes, and the bottom of the hole does come about 2 inches or so lower than my armpit. I'm assuming it should fit higher, but how high?

Taffy, how do you intend wearing this jacket? As is with jeans and those tops?

The mood of this jacket is very formal. It looks as though it was part of a suit. The way it’s scrunching under the arms when it’s unbuttoned is not ideal. I refitted my suit jacket to make sure I wasn’t batty and they are a much cleaner fit. I’d suggest something more playful. Does that make sense?

Angie-- I did want to wear it with jeans... to be honest I was kind of going for the Jennifer Aniston look you mentioned last month. I'll take it back and keep looking. THanks for the help!

I like the jacket, but seems like you've all worked out the kinks already! Lovely backyard. Definitely suits your coloring!

I have a question on the buttoning. Does the bottom button rule apply to a two-button jacket, or just a 3? It seems like it would look a bit odd on Taffy if she unbuttoned the second button. What about a jacket with 4 or more buttons? Those are often slightly different cuts, but I'm curious about what people think! With shorter jackets (not classic cuts as this one), it seems that this rule wouldn't make sense.
