Have you ever bought an entire outfit off a mannequin?

I always thought it would be silly to do so because I'm not really shaped like a model or a plastic mannequin, but for the first time I'm really drawn to an entire outfit and might order the whole thing!

For those of us who have bought an entire outfit, does this stop you from mixing and matching as much as you would like to in the future?

I attached pics of the outfit I'm in love with, down to the dotty tights!

Never. Honestly, I don't think I've ever bought an entire outfit at once, period! Unless a dress counts as a whole outfit . . . oh, wait, that would need shoes - nope, never done it.
I love the one you are eyeing though!

@ LOL, Mo - I read that as "Unless dress shoes count ..." and I was slightly concerned what you were just wearing dress shoes for!

I must admit I'm slightly motivated too because all the pieces happen to be on sale :p

@ Nicole - Oooh; that sounds super fun! If I get the pieces, I'll definitely do that! I'm debating on the shoes because they're out of my size ... unless I chop off my big toe. :p

No, but once at Club Monaco they had pleather shorts, and my size happened to be on the mannequin so they stripped right then and there for me. Of course the shorts were heavy pinned because I am not mannequin sized. It was amusing to watch the sale associate debate what to put on the mannequin instaed.

I've bought whole outfits off the mannequin - literally. Haha. Clerks undressed the mannequin, like for Anna! Anyways, no, I don't think it has limited the way I wear the pieces. Oh, the first few months I'll want to wear the outfit exactly as it was displayed. After that, I'll be Ok! Time to move on!

I do have a rule for men, however, about never wearing whole Ralph Lauren outfits off the mannequin. With all due respect, these are not looks that a man should ever wear off the private estate.

Yes, I copied an outfit just once. It happens to be one of my favorite outfits, and while I do mix it up with other things, I wear it most often the way it was on the mannequin. That's probably because that's what drew me to it in the first place. And I would totally copy the outfit you posted, I think it is beautiful!

I also have been known to take clothes right off the mannequins. It's a running joke between me and my mother-in-law (me: "They're out of my size." My MIL: "Well, check the one on the mannequin, she's probably wearing it.")

So if you go to a store and see a bunch of naked mannequins, chances are I've been there

No, I have never bought an entire outfit off a mannequin, but the one you have posted is so wonderful that I feel I want it all "as is".

@ Karie - I leave tons of naked mannequins in my wake too! It's often the only "S" left in the store when t here are clearances! :p

No, and I have such blinders on that I often don't even *see* the mannequins. I also don't notice a lot of signs and often ask where something is (like the fitting rooms) when there is a sign pointing to them directly overhead. Duh!

This is a cute outfit; go for it. You can always switch it up too.

But that's not a mannequin - she's a model, so really, it's more of a "copycat," which is perfectly acceptable and done all the time here at YLF!

Ah!!! All the time I spent quibbling about it, the outfit sold out in my size.

Oh well, I can't steal her clothes, so I'll just wait for something else to come along. That and the $30 shipping I couldn't really swallow.

I've denuded a mannequin or two but it's been years. Why not if you love the outfit. What's embarassing is to have the SA take everything off the mannequin and then decide not to buy anything after all.

Not off the mannequin but I did buy an entire outfit down to the scarf and blue snakeskin pumps from a pic I loved in the White House Black Market catalog. And wore it exactly as pictured! (I did not, however, wear that outfit to WHBM--that would have been too much!)

I have remixed the outfit...the skirt is the most versatile of the pieces. The shirt, scarf and pumps (heels too high) unfortunately have not gotten much wear.

I have taken clothes off mannequins if it was the only one left in my size, a couple of times, but not a whole outfit.

Too bad you weren't able to get that outfit--I love it!

@ Joy - that recently happened to me! I wanted to try on the dress in "S" but they didn't have it on the floor, so I asked for the one in the display case. They got it down, but it was still too big! Now I think I have to shop at a different store :p

Well too bad the outfit is gone, I could see you in this...but keep watching, maybe whoever bought it will return it knowing it didn't suit them and it will be yours Or watch their site for something else. Looks like they have styles that would work for you.
