Happy Hour with the girls-what to wear?

I put together these outfit options for happy hour tonight. I'm uncertain about all of them, but that may be because I'm frustrated with my wardrobe as much as anything else. Does any one combination work better than another? Suggestions for making them better? Which shoes should I wear?

I promise, someday I'll be able to dress myself, lol.

I would choose the Dress w/o the scarf and with your flat sandals (the ones on the right).

I think it is not to dressy and still pretty.

My choice would depend on where you are going to happy hour (e.g., local pub, wine bar, upscale restaurant, etc.).

I have that AT cardigan in brown that you're wearing in the second picture! It says dry clean only... have you tried machine washing it by any chance? I think I am going to risk it.

I think my favorite option is the one with the white waistcoat. Looks great, and appropriate for happy hour! (If it's a casual place.)

cciele-I'll tell you where I'm going, but I'm afraid it will only confuse things more, lol. I'd best describe this place as an upper-scale, "fast casual" mexican restaurant with a bar. The decor is contemporary and has an upscale feel, but you still order your food from the (very nice and not at all fast-foodish) counter and they bring it to you. Of course, I'm just going for drinks at the bar or on the patio. Hope that helps more than confuses.

rute-thanks for the input. I think you may be spot on with the dress; it may be the perfect opportunity for me to wear it.

When I go out, I wear my fave jeans, heels, and a cute sleeveless top. So..of your options I'd do the jeans, heels, and the first top without the cardigan.

MC-I'm embarrassed to say that I haven't washed my cardigan yet, mainly because it is dry clean only. In fact, had I looked at the tag before buying it, I might have never brought it home. In any case, I'm going to risk either a hand wash or a gentle cycle machine wash, too. I don't think the fiber content is so exotic that it won't survive! And thanks for you input on my happy hour outfit!

Marianna and karlie i don't have that particular cardi but i do have a boyfriend cardi which said dry clean only and i washed it in one of those net laundry bags on a cool handwash programme in the washing machine then air dried it on a shaped coat hanger and it came out fine x

Thanks for the description karlie -- it sounds like a fun place! I'd either wear the first outfit (the second one is cute too), or if you want to glam it up a bit, wear the black dress as rute suggested. Instead of the scarf, maybe some chunky casual jewelry?

That particular cardi is linen. I didn't look at the tag when I bought it either! I got it on sale though, so it won't be a huge loss for me if I ruin it by washing it. I think I will just wash it on a gentle cycle. The laundry bag is a good idea too, Loulou.

The cardi i had was 50% cotton 35% viscose and 15% linen sorry not much help! But i wash linen trousers in the machine so i wonder why they put dry clean only? Sorry just thinking out loud here! x

Thanks for the advice everyone! I don't know that it's made my decision any easier, but at least I know I'll look good no matter what!

I try use dry cleaning as little as possible; it don't like the chemicals and, most importantly, it's expensive!! I'll hand wash or gentle cycle wash as much as I can, regardless of what the tag says. Honestly, sometimes I think the clothing manufacturers put "dry clean only" or "gentle cycle, cold water" on everything just so they can't be held liable if things fade or shrink. Many, many years ago, I bought a shirt at K-mart that couldn't have cost more than $10. It was cotton and dry clean only. A few trips to the cleaners would have cost more than the shirt itself! Made no sense to me whatsoever! While there are some things that really should only be dry cleaned, I tend to steer clear of them.
