Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Halloween (not OT)

Halloween is my favorite holiday. DH and I have been brainstorming costume ideas (we have two parties to attend). I came up with the idea to be a "Fashion Victim." An overly trendy outfit - with blood and zombie make-up to imply I'm a victim. :-)

What should I wear? I want to be really over the top with the outfit part... help me get creative!!

(And no jokes about me already being a fashion victim... hee hee... )

Ahh what a great idea!! I feel like Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen are great source material. No offense to anyone who likes them, but they are the epitome of fashion victims in my mind!

One thing that immediately springs to mind is a HUGE bag, like a comically large one. I feel like every season they just get bigger. Sky-high heels that you can barely walk in, brightly colored opaque tights? XD I don't want to kill you for Halloween though...

OH maybe those horribly Kanye glasses, the plastic ones with the lines through them! Hipster kids wear them all the time around here.

I think a key to being a fashion victim is over-accessorizing. :D Maybe think of an outfit you kind of like and take it waaayy too far.

shiny, this is so well timed to an ad I saw this morning on TV at the gym. I forget what the ad was for but the subject of interest seemed to be this VERY petite lady with a huge bag, golf ball sized versions of chunky pearls with matching earrings, a dog that looked like a Great Dane, huge sunglasses, huge bracelets etc. I didn't get to see what type of shoes she was wearing. Presumably it some kind of a take on the "oversized" trend of the last few seasons. It was so comical and I was wondering if I should post about it. I was only watching not listening so I don't know how this was pertinent to the ad.

When I think "fashion victim" I think of someone who tries every single trend - in one outfit. Maybe try a version of one of these punk looks at Forever21.

Specifically photo 2. Add big jewelry and giant sunglasses.

I would be genuinely frightened by this

I could also see it working if you wore your usual beautiful blouse and jacket combination on your top half and then added the most over the top harem trousers to the bottom

Oh look and here is a hybrid of the two

I can see hours of fun ahead planning your outfit

Sarah's link to Forever 21 had some good ideas, but make the stockings/tights well ripped or tattered. I'm seeing very heavily black outlined eyes in some fashion magazines. Another idea is to mix a bunch of patterns like multiple animal prints, plaids and large geometrics. How about one of those gianormous statement glitzy necklaces. Then there's that granny square dress...

With whatever crazy ensemble you choose, I think you should carry around a chihuahua in a purse. :)

I think short shorts with patterned hose, tall boots, or booties, hair ratted up high with hair jewelry, Dolly Parton makeup, skimpy top with a flowing cardigan, too much jewelry. That sounds fashion victim to me. What a cute idea.

I think this is a great costume idea. I would recommend getting a couple of issues of US Weekly for inspiration. I think everyone else has given great ideas here.

Oh, and slightly OT, but I wanted to tell Niva that the commercial is for a low-calorie yogurt. The normally-dressed woman tells the woman in the big clothes and accessories that she looks like she has lost weight, and the big accessories woman says she just wears big things so she'll look smaller. (Then the normal one talks up the yogurt.)

Shiny, sounds like fun! I like the idea of incorporating a bunch of trends all at once - especially the crazy ones. F21 sounds like a great place to be able to do this. I like Julie's idea of the harem pants - maybe with some kind of crazy moto jacket! Can't wait to see the other ideas.

You know who else I think are total fashion victims - the people who wear logos from head to toe. I ran into a woman yesterday who was wearing a burberry coat (with the plaid exposed on the collar and sleeves), a burberry plaid scarf, and a burberry plaid purse. It was such overkill! You see people doing that with coach or gucci too and it's so tacky!

Shana reminded me of Ed Hardy... oh how I hate Ed Hardy and those who wear the label from head to toe! Your costume should include some of that... and maybe even a pair of sweat pants that say "Juicy" on the bum. :)

Hillarious. I like Oneirix’s reference to the Olsen twins. That’s brilliant. But the ideas here are excellent and I can’t wait to see the outfit.

Yes, yes, Juicy on the butt and please put a stuffed dog in your purse!!! That would just be the cherry on the sundae.

Best hallowween costume idea I've heard in ages! Even better than the guy I met who forgot to dress up and said he was a nudist on strike. :)
I can't top the ideas here, but make sure you incorporate some colours that look really awful with the red of the fake blood. :) Oh and don't forget to wear far too much makeup. :)

Great idea!! Whatever you wear, you must be plastered in as many logos as possible. Photocopy them and cut them out and tape them to everything! :)
