I am true to my word when I say I will keep an open mind! I finally found some Fryes that I like. I am not even going to bother dreaming about them right now because I don't have a dime to my name, but I am hoping by the time I have money and they inevitably sell out, I can hunt them down on ebay.

I like the natural color but it isn't really "me." Perhaps it's time to try something new?

LOOOVE the bordeaux color and the piping details, and they're on sale, so there is some hope. The calves are nice and narrow, but perhaps too narrow for jeans. I'm not sure.

The top looks a little western to me which gives me pause, and I think they might be too tall for me but it's hard to know with how the opening is shaped. I could probably only wear them over jeans.

Is there a preference among the YLF community?

Maya- the Cindy w/ piping in black is on the way to my house right now.. so I'll let you know how it goes w/ pics hopefully later this week. I ordered these last week after returning some nice pikolino's from 6pm.com that just did not fit, otherwise would have kept those.

Those are all lovely. I like the first ones best probably because I would like to add something similar to my collection. That's probably not going to happen any time soon so I'll just salivate with you.

Decisions, decisions ummmm i think i'll go for 1 or 3 with a slight preference for ...... i suppose it depends what gap you want them for 1 looks more casual and 3 more dressy? x

Mmm they're all so yummy. I love flat boots. I am entirely jealous of everyone with normal-sized feet! I want a pair of Fryes too!

I have had the first pair at my house. It was the first pair f Fryes I ordered. I also found them to be attractive because they looked so much like Angie's without the heel. I found them to run small and a bit to pointy. If you look at Angie's and the Cindy's you'll see that the Cindy's are quite a bit more pointed amoung other things, than the Rory's. I thought really the only thing similar was the scrunch top on them.
I have read reviews on Zappo's of people who love the the Cindy's so you may have the right feet for them, but mine aren't.
One thing about Angie's boots, the heel is very easy to walk in, as if they are flat boots. You might try the Rory Scrunch if the Cindy's don't workout for you, they fit so much better on me than the Cindy's, and they run large.
After trying on many Frye's and sending them back, I am now madly in love with these, and they are my keepers. The fit is fantastic for me.

The price is too high but I had a good look at the good workmanship, and the comfort of the boots make me smile when I put them on. I guess when you find your Frye's, you know it's true love.

I love the first pair and I know what you mean about the natural color- more my color than yours but it looks great with black and anything in the purple family.
I am really cautious about slouchy styles that are that expensive. I have to think about something that expensive lasting for decades. I do not know if that style- the slouch or the thicker ankle will be around. I might be crazy but does anyone else have that concern?
Frye western, harness and engineer styles seem to always be in style. I know that is not your look. Couldn't you find a great pair of trendier style boots that are not that expensive?

Maybe I am off and those styles will last longer than I think. I wish I did not have to think so practically.

I really like them all...maybe the cinday slouch, but just a smidge better.

What I LOVE about all these is the pretty almond toe shape. Most boots I have looked at are too square, too pointy, too long, or just too boxy and masculine..these are perfect to me:)

Thanks for commenting on that San. I had no idea what the comfort level of any of these would be. I think I'd rather stick to a flat boot though, so the Rorys are out for me. I have one pair of heeled boots and it just seems like enough for me. I'm just not a heels girl.

Those boots you linked to are quite the splurge! Did you get them?

Actually, the almond toes might be a problem for me, even though they are my favorite shape But I could probably size up like I usually do in boots and be fine. Who knows. So much depends on the quality of the material.

Jean, I have that concern too about slouch boots. I initially didn't want a second pair in my closet but I liked these a whole lot and the color is so unique. Most "natural" colors are very orange which I don't like, and these are not. The slouch also seems less dramatic than it is with other boots. I don't like a lot of slouch. It looks silly to me...like rolls and rolls of leather balanced upon two teeny tiny feet!

I think the second pair might win just because they look relatively timeless, have some visual interest with the piping, and the bordeaux is a fab color. They will probably fit my calves too. My size will be long gone by the time I can afford them, especially since they are on sale, so hopefully they will pop up on ebay.

I guess part of my problem with the everyone-should-own-Fryes rule is that aren't Fryes just inherently casual? Is it really worth the cost for such casual boots?

If I could wear heels, I'd be all over those.

Anyhow, I would definitely spend money for casual boots because the cost per wear would be much less than for a dressy pair that I don't wear as often.

Those are drop dead gorgeous Cathy, minus that silly heel. I'm not really looking for dressy boots either, it's just that the distressed look of most Fryes puts me off a bit.

Maya, the Melissa button boot that Angie has recommended for Kristen is a beautiful boot with a bit of thicker, less slouchy leather in the shaft. I actually wanted those but on Zappos all the good colors were sold out so I decided to get the ones I linked to this year and wait and see what they come out with next year.
To me Frye's are all about lasting FOREVER, being resoled when neccessary, getting better with age.
Can you go to a store that sells western wear or Frye boots and try on all of the styles you are interested in before you buy on Ebay? You may be quite surprised at how different they are in real life and how different the fit and quality will be. They seem to be made all over the world. As you can tell I've had Zappos coming and going here alot lately!
I did splurge on the one's I showed you because the comfort for my feet said YES!

Wow, what a great investment. You'll have a lot of happy times with them, I'm sure. Boots are one of those things I would splurge on if I could.

I don't know of any stores in the area that carry that style. I have checked both major shoe retailers in NYC. Ideally I would just order them, try them on to get the size right, and send them back, but I can't be without that much money right now. It's tough though because there is always a big risk with shoes.

Maybe I ought to forgo all of them and just see what styles they have when I finally have spending money.

Melissa is still too western for me and probably too tall and wide as well.

I love the Fryes you posted, Maya! I am also weighing cost versus timelessness. I love the Frye Veronica, but then wonder if its too trendy for the price. If I'm spending over $300 on boots, I need them to be timeless enough to wear for 5-7 years or even longer if I take care of them.

I agree with you on the timelessness issue. We're entering a new decade so I'm more conscious than ever of timelessness than I was before. Slouchy boots would have to come back strong for at least 2 more years before I consider them safe.

San, I probably am. I love Angie's SW boots. I think they would be toe-pinching hell on my feet, but they are beautiful and most SW boots seem to be narrow through the calf. They are also very tall and narrow through the foot as well though, so probably not the best brand for me.

Maybe I'm the exception to the everyone-needs-a-pair-of-Fryes rule. I feel like I'm only looking at them because of that blog, not because I'm actually DYING to get them. For me to spend that money, I think I need to love them a lot more than I do.

You know what I am? I am a La Canadienne girl. For the same price as Fryes, I get waterproof, timeless, but still urban and edgy styles with a memory foam footbed. Calves are usually narrow too. I think I'll stick with what I know. I love these boots more than any of the Fryes:
