Formal Outerwear, Teen Daughter/Homecoming Court?

My daughter is a freshman in High School and was nominated to be on the Homecoming Court. My concern is, they have to be on a float after school, attend the football game, do a mini-parade during half-time on a convertable vette...basically will be outside, the girls in their formal dresses and heels, from 3:30 til 9:00 p.m.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what kind of outerwear I can get for her? Her dress is a deep purple, strapless satin, knee length. She nixed a bolero, my dress coat, a pink suade/fur color jacket I have...and insists she'll just keep a blanket on-hand. Now I'm considering finding a fancy black blanket, if that's the only option I have. I could always bedazzle it lol.

Any ideas would be appreciated, I'm stuck. I've seen girls at previous homecoming games just wear their regular coats, but that just seems to ruin the look they try so hard to achieve. And, yes, daughter is a fashion nut just like me.

What about a little fake fur capelet with a pretty bow?

I agree with Khris; what you need is a cape, not a coat:) Whether you go for a capelet that just covers the shoulders, or a longer, waist-length number, capes will fit the formality of the gown and situation a bit more. Plus they feel so retro and fun to wear! :) I have a couple given to me by my Grandmother, but you can often find them in vintage and consignment stores these days.

Great idea! I'll have to check out ebay as well. All my ideas fell flat, she may actually like this one. Thank you, ladies!

A capelet is a good idea, but you might also consider a cute faux fur jacket since she'll be wearing a cocktail-length dress. Something 1960s-ish. She could wear the jacket with jeans after the event.

That's a good idea, too. I actually had my eye on one for myself a few weeks ago on ebay, and it relisted. My concern is she is soooo picky, though she is maturing (actually willing to wear heels/rhinestones AND have her hair done, unlike jr. high formals). I shouldn't complain, until 8th grade it wasn't cool to wear any coat no matter how cold it got, at least she's embracing warmth now.

She hadn't even planned on attending the dance til she was voted on the Court, so we're running around like fools to get this all done by next Friday.
