For Sarah (sarbear): Katie Holmes in NYT Style Magazine

Sarah, I saw these images of Katie Holmes on the cover of the New York Times Style Magazine and thought of you immediately. I think there's a definite resemblence and I bet you could rock this '40s look. Enjoy!

Briana, I looked at this link and Katie Holmes looks amazing. Her interview is really dull though! Thanks for posting it.

Laura, I didn't even read the interview! I am not a fan of the Katie-Tom hype machine, but I think she looks gorgeous in these photos.

BLB, thanks for posting this! Regardless of the Tom/Katie hype (I'm like you, I avoid celebrity hype at all costs), Katie's fashion has always inspired me - especially lately. I love the looks in this spread! Thanks!!

Well you didn't miss a thing by not reading the interview! Yawn! :)

(Maybe the interview is dull because she is really dull. OMG did I really just write that? Pleeze don't flame me anyone ;-) I do like her fashion sense!)

The pictures are so errie to me. They look frozen and we're not used to hollywood stars being photographed frozen like that anymore. Maybe especially the ones of Tom look eerie. He doesn't do well in the frozen look. He looks scary.

Tom just *IS* scary, right? :)

Tom is ALWAYS scary these days! Run, run for the hills! *shudder*

This is not going to go down well, but I actually prefer Tom. Judgments about him and Katie aside, he is a brilliant actor and I’ve seen virtually every movie he’s made, and will continue to do so. I think he’s better looking than Katie *ducking*.

Really Angie! Shocking! :)

Katie is lovely but she is nowhere near as beautiful as Nicole Kidman *ducking*.

Posted 1 year ago

Now I'm not sure I want a likeness with Katie. :) Just kidding! Angie, I love Tom's older movies and definitely think he's a brilliant actor. I'm just not sure about his personal life. Although to be fair, you never know what is really true and what isn't I guess.
I agree laura, Nicole Kidman is stunning. I just saw Australia with Ana and Patience, and she (and her wardrobe) were stunning.

There is no doubt that Tom has behaved poorly in the public eye, but these are actors that act. You can’t take any of them seriously unless you know them personally. They ACT for a living and are merely eye candy as far as I’m concerned. When you see an actor you “think” is a decent person – you don’t really know. Soooo, I’m not on the “I can’t stand Tom Cruise camp”. I’m the opposite.

“A Few Good Men”, “Born on the 4th of July”, “Risky business”, “Mission Impossible”. To deny that Tom is an incredible actor would simply be unfair.

As for Nicole Kidman, there are probably two people on earth that hold a candle to her unique beauty. I find her look positively breath taking.

I am more in the camp with Rozanne who said that Nicole Kidman's forhead looks like a big screen TV. Now I am ducking! I guess I feel she looks over stylized. I thought she was so beautiful when she looked more natural and had some expression in her face. But looks are not really everything, well unless your a movie star then I guess looks are alot of the whole pkg.
It's a matter of personal taste. I like Katie's smokey look. I have no idea what kind of actress she is.
I had Tom's posters on my wall in the 80's. My kids still tease me. He just looks scary to me now and I don't realy know why.

I'm with you San. I used to absolutely adore Nicole Kidman. But I think she got a few too many Botox shots lately, very sad. I still admire her sense of fashion, though, and always look forward to seeing looks at the award shows and the like.

Oh no, I completely disagree! Nicole Kidman is beyond stunning. I must be naive but I don't see why people think she uses Botox - do you notice that in her photos?

Let's try to guess Angie's top three women. Hmmmm. So Nicole Kidman is already in. Then, Cate Blanchett and Angelina Jolie.

Do I have either of them correct???

I think it is interesting to hear what different people find stunning. For example, Jennifer Aniston and Gwyneth Paltrow are in my top five. They both have a very simple, chic, natural style - which is nothing like my own, come to think of it.

I agree about Gwyneth Paltrow. I once saw her in person and she was with Brad Pitt. She had her thick, super blonde hair in two braids. her hair was almost glowing, it was this unearthly golden color. She was so stunning that I almost didn't notice HIM!

(I LOVE that we can agree to disagree on YLF. It means the world to me that we can comfortably have our say and respect it fully. Thank you everyone for being fabulous).

It’s also wonderful that beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. So, Laura, you were spot on with Cate Blanchett and Nicole Kidman. I am not an Angelina Jolie fan and I don’t prefer her look. I’d put alongside my two favourite Auzzie woman, magnificent lasses like Penelope Cruz, Beyonce and Kate Moss. There and millions of beautiful celebrity women but these are my top 5. Who are yours?

Posted 1 year ago

Penelope Cruz, yes, yes, yes. I LOVE her dark Spanish looks. Those eyes! She is a classic beauty.

I have seen photos of Michelle Williams looking absolutely stunning. She has the most beautiful face, but I think people don't realize how gorgeous she is because she dresses down a fair amount and can look a bit unkempt. Still, I admire her looks.

Who else, anyone?

Posted 1 year ago

Yes Michelle Williams is my favorite.

Michelle Williams in that vintage mango dress on Oscar night 3 years ago is my favourite red carpet look of ALL time. KILLER everything. She is a pretty girl.

Now I'm trying to decide who my favourites are. Bjork tops the list for me. Mary McDonnell--I'd be over the moon if I looked half as beautiful as her at 55. Cate Blanchett. Alek Wek. Angelina. Katee Sackhoff. Lauryn Hill.

You know, I've never seen any of the classic Tom Cruise movies. Isn't that crazy? I have such a strong dislike for him now, based on his behaviour and comments over the past few years (especially what he said about women who take medication for post-partum depression), that I don't know if I could watch them without thinking about that. Maybe I'll give it a try. I should at least see Mission Impossible, right? ;)

I wonder if the folks who styled and shot the NYT photos were making a bit of a point by making everything so highly crafted and poised. I still like them, though--I enjoy aesthetic extremes (see: Bjork!).

I enjoyed Mission Impossible, actually. But I'm a huge fan of thrillers... Bourne, Bond, Jones...yummy! I watched MI twice in a row the first time I saw it. I like movies that challenge the mind.
Anyway. I have always loved actresses with a simple beauty, not over the top glam. I love Julia Roberts. And of course Gwyneth and Jennifer and Nicole.
I also love Julie Andrews. And lately, Anne Hathaway has been piquing my interest fashion-wise.

Posted 1 year ago

I like Anne Hathaway's style, too! She also had a great magazine shot recently, was it in Vogue or Vanity Fair? Loved it.

I also like Michelle Williams (cutest casual looks), Cate Blanchett, Penelope Cruz (SWOOOOON), Rhianna, Gwen Stefani, Katie Holmes for their sense of style.

Reese Witherspoon has a good easy smart casual style. Jennifer Aniston is very polished but a little too "safe" for my taste, I'd love for her to experiment a bit more and use more color in her wardrobe. And Angelina Jolie is even more "color safe" (too much grey and black for my taste) and I'd love for her to go more tailored vs. flowing. But she sure is gorgeous.

Penelope Cruz is so beautiful. I read in the Parade magazine a few years ago that she would not become a big star because she was neither talented nor beautiful enough. I disagree with both of those sentiments.
Anne Hathaway also is so beautiful and talented.
Angelina, I just don't like her as a person. I don't know her ofcourse, but from what is let out to us through the media or when I see her do an interview, I don't like her personality and I don't think she is an honest person. I can't see beauty or style through that.
