dress rehearsal with shoes and necklace

okay,I really need to get my accessories squared away for this dress. I found this necklace and shoes. Yay or nay? and if it's a nay, what should I be looking for instead?.

and of course those pasty white legs will need some hose- what color? (you all might not approve, but I think I can get away with wearing hose with open toe shoes as long as they don't have that reinforced toe.

Queenie, I'm not very good with accessories but I think the necklace and shoes look GREAT with that dress. Good choices!

Do you mind telling us where you got the necklace? It is wonderful.

I would probably go with black hose to keep things simple, but maybe others will have better suggestions.

thanks medusa and bella- I found the necklace at New York and Company and was hoping it might work.
For some reason the shoes seem off to me... like they should be darker or heavier or something....
any other voters?

Wow, that dress is gorgeous on you! Hmm, I get the same feeling as you with the shoes - it just seems like a bit of a mismatch to me with the style of the dress. I see this dress with some peep-toe pumps rather than such a strappy sandal. Something like this:

i keep picturing a classic pump with this, not too pointy, not too round. i do think closed toe is the way to go. i think it would balance out the neckline somehow, it needs something more solid rather than strappy/cut out, in my mind.

Queenie, how would you feel about adding a bit of dramatic edge to this dress? As pretty as it is, it’s looking a little “bridesmaid-y” at the moment - with the silver sandals especially.

Just a thought:

o Black pumps, sling backs or peep toes
o Black fishnets
o Tarnished silver choker
o Black vintage wrap tied like a stole
o Pewter clutch

Don’t worry if you think I’m mad. I get that these suggestions might not go down well :0)

If you asked me to explain why, I couldn't do it, but somehow I find myself envisioning a chunkier shoe with this dress (which looks fabulous on you btw).

Angie- I love that idea, just didn't know how to go about it. I'll be off to the mall again tomorrow. The shoes and hose should be fairly easy to find, the choker and wrap could be a bit trickier... any suggestions on where to look? Can you direct me to a visual? And, I may not mess with a clutch- my husbands coat pocket usually serves me well as a clutch. My clutch would just end up on the table at the reception for the evening anyway. Thanks for the inspiration-- I would love to pull that off!

Maya- I am thinking the same thing- I think maybe it's because a chunkier shoe would offset the classic cut of the dress?

I went to sleep fretting about this... why do we do this to ourselves?

I guess my biggest question right now is how do you keep a wrap in place for an event such as a wedding? I can see a cocktail party where I'm standing around making small talk, sipping wine and eating bites, but through a wedding, sit down meal, pictures, dancing, all the hubaloo.....
Would I just wear the wrap for the ceremony and then ditch it at the reception? Would I wear it for the pictures? (it's a family wedding) or would that look kindof odd to have a wrap on for a family picture? I'm still wondering what to look for in a wrap. Angie, are you talking about lacy, a loose crochet, or another kind of fabric? Sorry to have so many questions.

And for a choker or necklace- what vibe am I looking for? dainty, bold, something unexpected?

so i sympathize with having to hit the mall at this late date. i always feel the need the check EVERY store, in case i've missed some option i hadn't thought of, which is exhausting....

it sounds like, from angie's formula above, most any black shoe would work and the jewelry might be more important/visible to the look? so i wouldn't stress too much about the shoe, just get something that you are comfortable in that is black. Ha, "don't sress" easier said than done...:)

i would check Claire's for jewelry. i was surprised the last time i went in there (first time since i was 13!) how much dressy jewelry they have. they don't show their products online though...so i don't have a visual....

Glad you’re on board with the idea, queenie. How did your shopping go?

I’m afraid that the brown shoes are too casual, and so are the tights. Sorry!!! Why don’t you try those black sandals with black fishnets.

On the wrap, I’d wear it throughout the evening unless you’re dancing.

Angie- I arrived at that conclusion too (that my shoes and hose were too casual) but it did help me to see that I needed to go darker than the silver.
My hubby went shopping with me today and we ended up focusing on getting Christmas wrapped up, but I did find a little bag that I thought would go well with this dress. I told him to buy it and wrap it up for me I"m going to go acquire a pair of fishnets and try one more time with the black sandals, new bag and a necklace that I think might work.
Thanks for all your feedback Angie- I wish this came more easily to me. What I see in my head does not always translate well in real life!
