Do my new flats fit?

My new Franco Sarto flats came today, and I can't decide if they fit or not.

They don't hurt or pinch, although the backs will need to be broken in a bit. I just don't seem to have any wiggle room in the toe box. I guess the best way to describe it...It fits like a sock does. They don't hurt, but they are isn't any extra room anywhere. Is that how they should be, so that you don't walk out of them? I've never worn ballet flats before, so I'm not sure.
I think a half size up would be good...but they're already 11s so 12 is the next option.

Hmm....well, you want them to be sort of snug, but not pinch or rub at all. Ballet flats do tend to be more fitted in general. I would wear them around the house (not outside) for a few hours and see how they feel. If they start to rub or your feet get sore pretty quickly, I'd take them back.

A lot of my flats are very fitted, but don't rub or squish my feet/toes, and that's okay. You don't want to squish your toes together too hard because it could cause bunions.

I've had flats that are a bit tight in the toe box, and it isn't pleasant! Ana's suggestion of walking around inside is a smart idea. But if they end up not feeling great, I'd send them back.

If you haven't worn flats before, I'd suggest doing some shoe shopping in an actual store. Try on a variety of different styles of flats, as well as brands, sizes, and materials, to see how they fit overall. just like with finding the perfect jean, you might have to do some investigating before you find the right pair. This particular pair just might not be your David Kahn of shoes.

It looks like they are pretty sturdy based on the photo. A flat with softer and more forgiving leather may work better and be more comfortable. It doesn't look that the leather will stretch too much...Ana's suggestion was great - you'll know whether you want to keep them after a few hours!

I once read that we shouldn't "break in" shoes - if they don't fit and feel comfortable right off the bat they are not the right pair. I certainly don't follow this advice, but it's probably pretty accurate!

How do you like your shoes to fit, Taffy? Is it possible to get the next size up, compare, then return the one you don't want?

Rosebud, I have read that too somewhere. I think it was said that "breaking in your shoes is really breaking in your feet." Ouch! I've definitely forced myself to wear shoes (esp. heels) until they get comfortable, meaning I develop scar tissue over toes and get blisters... don't let it happen to you Taffy! Take care of your feet so they take care of you!

What about getting a sock like Angie mentioned in her blog for slingback shoes? A liner of some sort would help prevent chaffing too.

Will you be wearing them with hose, thin nylon trouser socks or knee highs? Sometimes the slippery nylon makes a slightly tight shoe fit more comfortably.

I decided to try the larger size. If those don't work, there are always more fish in the sea. They won't have the 12s in until August 22, so I won't see them until the end of the month. I guess that way it'll be even more exciting when they do fit! Like the Christmas that you've waited all month for
