For those looking for a denim jacket in dark indigo or in white, I found these at Eddie Bauer, available in regular, petite, tall and plus sizes.

Thanks, Joy. I am spotting denim jackets everywhere. They are making a huge come back at retail level. I’ve had two clients purchase the Talbots one this week. Zara has a great one, so does INC and Charter Cub at Macys, to name but a few.

Angie, I'm on the Kansas side of Kansas City in the suburbs.

I would like to find a white denim jacket, but the one I linked to is 100% cotton (no stretch) Would it be better to hold out for at least a little stretch. I ask because my Gap jacket has 1% spandex. I recently couldn't resist a consignment JCrew very dark denim jacket without the contrasting stitching. It is 100% cotton and not quite as comfortable although it looks great. It has never been washed (new even though consignment) so may soften up a bit.
Should I hold out for a white one with some spandex or not worry about it? These will be fun to pair with summer tops. I'm looking forward to your blog on graphic tees as I want to try this look and wonder what to look for.

I'm looking for a denim jacket and I like the looks of this one, but no spandex is really a deal breaker for me as I'm an inverted triangle with a small bust line and narrow waist and need the stretch for shoulder comfort. I'll have to check out some of Angie's suggestions. The one that Sarah and Ana purchased from The Limited is one I may try. It does have some spandex so I might be able to get a good fit.

I was looking for a denim jacket that had minimal (or NO) chest pocket and stitching detail. I would ideally prefer an open collar, maybe mandarin--not crazy about the denim blazer style. I had not found anything as of last year. I hadn't considered white...hmmmmm. If anyone sees anything like that, keep me in mind. I am a size 12 on top.

I want a petite one, or a cropped one. I have a GAP one and it's a girls' size 14, but it is also feeling too big lately. That may be my eye has changed but it also could be the weight loss, since I did buy this jacket years ago. I may try a girls size 12 next, unless someone can find me a petite or cropped one to try.

I think we should give it a month or two. My hunch is that denim skirts and jackets will become more available. It was big for the designers this year too, which means 2010 will showcase even more styles. Also, do not underestimate the positive effect of tailoring a denim jacket. I did it with a 10 year old Diesel denim jacket and ended up with a PERFECT specimen that I shall never pass on.

Joy, why would you NOT prefer stretch?

What would you ask a tailor to do to make a boxy denim jacket more fitted? Can they shorten it too? Where should the jacket hit so that it's just the right length?

You are right. I do prefer some stretch for comfort. The JCrew jacket would be perfect if it had some since it's more polished looking. I get into too much of a hurry to find something and there's lots of time before white denim weather. Jackets are much more flattering on me than cardies. I'd also like to find a coral fitted jacket.

Joy - I have two EB denim jackets from pre-YLF, one white, one dark. They are 99% cotton, 1% spandex.

They are "okay." (I suspect Angie would say I could do better.) I think they are slightly boxy, but they are very useful for my climate and I don't have the budget to replace these pieces right now. Eventually I would like one that's a darker wash and more fitted.

(By the way - I wouldn't ordinarily wear them with what I'm wearing today - but I didn't want to change just to take a picture. I look particularly hippy in the dark denim!)

Thank you, Tara. I'm hoping for one more cropped and maybe they are now because they are described as shorter than previously. I do like the style and want something I can wear with dark rinse denim jeans and skirts. I'll have to try it on but will still wait to see what comes out for spring.

Hey Tara, could you have your existing denim jackets tailored? That would surely be way cheaper than replacing them, so maybe your budget could handle it?

Tara, I like the jackets on you and agree with Brianna that a little nipping in at the seams in the right places could make them more fitted and achieve what you want.

I am wondering if Bebe will show many denim jackets this spring - the leather moto jacket I have from them is so perfectly fitted and cropped. Hmmm.

Brianna and Laura - thanks! I will ask my tailor how much it would cost to alter the jackets. Could be a great solution.

Joy (and anyone else looking) - today I tried on the Talbot's denim jacket that Angie mentioned. I really like it. It's a very dark wash with no oversewing on the seams (don't know if that's the right term), which makes it very sleek looking. It has a nice line - not boxy, but I don't think it was cropped either (although that could just be how it is on me.) It really doesn't look like what I think of when I think of a typical "jeans jacket," but could definitely be worn dressed down. I think is a much more sophisticated version of the look. It was $89, so I'll have to wait and see if it goes on sale. If anyone else tries it on please let me know what you think!
