CM microcheck pants and BR skirt top--feedback needed

I tried on the Club Monaco microchecks yesterday and brought them home. I only want to keep them if they are absolutely killer. I've taken photos from all angles to show the fit, and have also included a possible outfit with a graphic T, vest, and Cons.

I've also included a shot of a skirt top from Banana Republic, worn with my beloved JCrew denim pencil skirt (which I haven't posted here before--I LOVE this skirt now that I've hemmed it) and my sadly soon-to-be-returned Korbin sandals. Again, I only want to keep this top if it's a 10.

Please let me know what you think; I won't tell you my thoughts until I've heard yours.

I happen to really like the CM pants. My hands down favorite outfit is with the graphic T and vest. I think they would look great with flats too. So far I have liked them on you, Tanya, and Tam. They could very well be the new YLF craze.

I like the BR top as well. The sleeves are so pretty. It seems on the thin/sheer side though. Or is that just because the skirt is black and the top is white?

The pants look a tad tight to me - there is some wrinkling.

I really like the top, though. It's very pretty & soft & looks really comfy. I agree with Maya that it is a little sheer - maybe it needs a cami under?

The micro check pants look really good on you. I love the texture they add.
The top in my opinion is so-so. On it's own like you're showing it, it doesn't do much for me. Maybe with layering it will turn it into a 10. It does have an interesting and pretty neckline. Perhaps it is the color that seems hohum. I have a picture of you in my mind with a more edgey look. Am I close?

So far, so good ladies! Yes, San, you are close Keep it coming. Please be totally, brutally honest--I won't get hurt feelings over clothes I haven't decided about yet.

A couple of things to add: I'd wear a cami under the BR top IF I kept it (my camis are in the wash right now) and the microcheck pants feel as though they would loosen up with wear, but of course I can't be sure.

I think the microchecks are great, and I second everything san said about the top.

The pants look a bit snug to me as well, although I love the outfit you have put together with the vest and graphic tee. Could you go up a size or would they be too big? Maybe someone else who has them can tell you whether they loosen up with wear (or shrink in the wash!).

The top is pretty - I like the sleeves and the neckline.

Love the top- great color for you. The pants are just ok for me- I'd take them back and look for a better fit.

OK, so far I'm leaning towards returning both the top and the pants. I can't go up a size in the pants, and I'm not willing to risk $100 on them not being a 10.

I think that the pants are a bit snug in the hip area. I like the style of the top but this will probably confuse you because of the last comment but Ithink that with you skin tone a bright white would work better than a cream. The skirt is fantastic!!

Brianna I like the pants on you better than on me!! I went back on today and tried them on again and was still undecided as well. Both my mum and another lady in the store agreed they were ok but not amazing on me so I've passed for now.

I'm still going back and forth on the pants. In the past few weeks I've gained about 5 pounds over my usual weight and I plan to make that disappear in short order, so that will alter the fit of the pants a bit, and likely make them fit better. Thing is, I'm planning to work on losing about 20 more pounds after that initial five. So I'm not sure if it's a good idea to hang on to these or not, especially considering I just (as in 20 minutes ago, while on my bike) ripped a hole in my only pair of straight leg jeans and need to replace those. This is hard!

I also think they look snug in the hips. I think you could do better on the fit. The outfit with the graphic tee and vest does look great.

Brianna, I also think they are a little too snug, but I tried these and it seemed to me that they would stretch out. Hard to say how much, though. It's interesting how skewed my perception is - when I tried them on, I thought the pattern was very prominent, but when I look at your and Tam's pictures, I don't see it at all.

(I caved and bought these pants today. The fabric is absolutely INCREDIBLE).

Brianna, they look snug. But I hear you if you feel you’ll fit into them a little better later. I actually do not get the impression that they will stretch out. Interesting. If you don’t love them, return them. Love you in the graphic T look!

Ha ha, Angie, I'm not surprised you bought some! I plan to return the pants to a different CM and if they happen to have the pants in a 12, I will try them and see if they work. If not, I'll probably pass and hunt for some later down the road or elsewhere. Thing is, the waist on these 10s is a bit on the loose side even though the thighs and hips are snug, so my hopes are not high.

Have you tried adjusting the waist, Brianna? These pants have glorious waist adjustments. Nice high rise too. I REALLY like you in the look though. But if they don’t fit, they don’t fit. Onto something else!

Yes, I do love the hair, Angie! I might lighten up the colour for spring.

The waist on the 10s fits well if I pull in the tabs a bit. We'll see if the 12s exist at the Robson store. Like you said, though, if they don't fit they don't fit. C'est la vie!

Wow, love that graphic tee+vest look on you! I agree that the pants look too snug - hopefully you will have better luck with another size because otherwise they look great & very versatile. The J crew skirt is perfection on you! I think the BR top is a good neutral shirt - you just need a cami under. It does look like it needs something more to spice it up - maybe a statement necklace??? That seems to be my standard refrain these days but I am really into the statement necklaces right now!!!!

Brianna, I love the graphic tee and vest outfit! I agree with others that the BR skirt top needs something and that a bright white may be a better color for you.
Have you tried a belt over the top? I'm thinking a belt with studs or a great metal clasp to tone down the sweetness of the top. Angie's casual necklace on a leather(ette) cord also comes to mind. Your vest would be great with this top.

The skirt top is just "meh." I think that a skin flattering color for the season would really make a statement.

I hope you can find the right size! They look like they would be good on you if they were just a bit larger. Too bad CM doesn't allow for online ordering. I'm not a fan of that.
