Can I wear skinnies?

I've been trying skinnies the past few weeks every chance I got. I think I might have found a pair at UO this last weekend at their $39.99 denim sale. They're not entirely dark wash and are more of a skinny straight leg:

Sorry for the spotty light conditions. I tried to take pictures in different light conditions so that the scrunching is visible. I've actually folded the jeans in by 4 inches at the hem.

These are the stone grey LEI skinnies I picked up for 5 bucks at Walmart a long time ago. I'm not wowed by it, but is this something I can wear under a dress or long tunic? I don't even have the receipt any more.

These may not be the skinnies I should keep but do you think I can carry off skinnies? Or should I stick with straight leg jeans?

Oh, and don't pay attention to my hair and oily face, I had just gotten back from work

To my eye you can definitely wear skinnies. I like the first pair best. The stone grey will need a tunic, but the color should be a great neutral to work with.

I know I'm sort of alone on this, but I don't subscribe to the idea that anyone can wear skinnies just as they wear all their other jeans. No matter how many times I see this, my eye just can't adjust. I think it makes all but the slimmest, most gazelle like women look imbalanced--either top heavy, bottom heavy, or just heavy period.

But I do think anyone can wear skinnies *with* a tunic and/or boots. So yes, I think you can wear skinnies but more like leggings than jeans. Skinnies allow you to wear a shorter tunic than leggings, which is a huge bonus. I hope I don't sound like I'm picking on you Vani, because this is how I feel about almost everyone, myself included. I just do not think skinnies are flattering as regular jeans unless you're built like a model.

But the point is, when paired with the right top, I think you'll look absolutely amazing in them, and you should keep them!

Joy, I know, the stone grey jeans are not a great fit but I was wondering how if I could put them to use now that I can't return them Tunic/dresses it is!

Jean, thanks! I really like that top You can't tell but the graphic print on it are musical notes. I'm hoping to find a longer, boyfriend style vest to wear with it.

I actually really like the $5 jeans. Can't beat the price and they'll look great with tunics and boots this fall! Love the color.

Vani, OF COURSE you can wear skinnies and straight legs. It all depends on how you wear them, to Maya’s point. Here’s my 2 cents:

o Blue pair are straight legs and they look AMAZING. Love the outfit. No need to wear tunics. You look delicious!

o Light grey pair are skinnies and they’re great for under a tunic. No regular length tops with this one.

Does that make sense?

Maya, we must have been posting at the same time because I missed your reply. Of course I don't think you're picking on me I completely agree with you on how true skinnies with shorter tops are not for everyone. I've been thinking of a sleeker pair of jeans to wear with long/tunic length top, dresses just so I can keep the volume balance in check. I will get an inexpensive pair of true skinnies just to give the skinny+knee high boots look a go this winter.

Angie, Makes complete sense! I wore the short top just to emphasize the bad fit of that grey pair At UO, true skinnies looked awful on me. The label on the blue pair said something about a straight skinny so I was encouraged to try it on. Glad I can keep it! Thank you
