Found a cute express jacket at lunch today. I am still mulling it over though. If it fits right on my shoulders, I can't button it at the waist. If I fit the waist, it is huge everywhere else. I would never button it anyway. Is it ok as is if I never plan to button it?

YAY: Buy it and leave it open

NAY: Pass, you must be able to button your jackets even if you never plan to do so

I see no reason there has to be a rule that you can button a jacket if you never intend to! Enjoy - it looks great on you!!

I agree with Mo in fact I do the same thing there are times when I have gotten a jacket that fits in the shoulders but will not button I still got the jacket and I'm glad that I did too!

Gosh, I think it looks great on you! I wouldn't worry about buttoning it. Seeing how cute it looks on you makes me realize that I buy my jackets MUCH too big.

Thanks Cilleena, I like jackets to be very fitted to give me the illusion of a waistline. Sometimes I have to look in the juniors section because even petites are cut too long for me.

I think this jacket looks really fab on you! I remember a thread a while back about this question...people had varying opinions. To me, this jacket looks like it fits you perfectly, and the buttons almost look decorative, so I wouldn't worry in the slightest about buttoning it.

What a great question. I rarely find jackets that fit both my wide shoulders and the rest of me. However, it irritates me not be able to button in theory. I always wonder if people think I wear my clothes too small (do they?).

If you really know you'll never feel the need to button, then go for it! It's really nice on you. And seeing you in this color makes me think you'll do fine with the heather grey.

Being able to button a jacket is overrated. Most of mine don't button, and that's fine because I would not wear them that way. I say go for it.

I say Yay, keep the jacket. If you don't plan on buttoning it, then it's perfect as is

I own that jacket in black, and I never button it, and never plan to.
To me, the buttons on this particular jacket are really more for decoration.
It looks fabulous on you. KEEP IT!

I usually only buy jackets I can button comfortably but this jacket looks cute open and if you don't plan to do it up and love it then why worry about it. Just get it and enjoy.

for a jacket like that, i don't see why you must buy one that you can button. however, going against the consensus, i dont like this jacket on you at all. it gives you no waist definition. is this the larger or smaller size?

@M - I have no waist - actually I have a waist it is just large from 2 babies and 2 c sections. This is about as close to an illusion of a waistline as I'm ever going to get in anything I wear.

i would think a jacket where the lapels ended higher on the torso would give you more waist definition? it's hard to know for sure but i would try something like that!

@M - I an try to iron them up higher and see if it makes a difference. I just worry that look is not very current.

Keep! If you never button it, it makes no difference! I have several jackets that I've never worn buttoned. Plus, it looks fabulous on you!

Even for jackets that *do* button, I usually prefer the look of wearing them open anyway - and I really like the way you styled this jacket. Keep it for sure!
