Good grief. Thanks for the response so far ladies. I had *no* idea that there were loads of business casual YLF’ers. It’s quite exciting actually. It’s become my favourite dress code!
Right. It’s been decided. YLF has smart casual and casual down – this is going to be the year for business casual. There are MANY ways to interpret this dress code and it all boils down to three things:
o The business environment – it is conservative, or trendy
o The level of formality
o Your individual style preferences
For example, my biz casual dress code is trendy because I work in the fashion business. It’s more formal because I err on the dressy side of dressy. And I prefer to wear skirts and dresses over slacks unless I’m wearing jeans.
Maya – I like that you want to put yourself ahead of the game. You can have lots of fun putting the right age appropriate biz casual stuff together in your professional environment. I’ll get back to your specific outfit question so remind me about it later.
April, I often wear dressy flats with skirts, dresses and pants! I even blogged about it. You are in good company and we’ll get you sorted. Marianna does this beautifully.
Kendra and Marianna, I like your thinking.
Kari, you have biz casual down. We can learn from you!
Julijuli, I bet you are quite the fashionista in your work environment :0)
Kristen, I’d like to hear more about the weather challenges in the office.
Tricia, would you dress up a pair of skinny jeans and wear them to the office now?
Marianne, we have to get you into skirts and dresses too!
Michelle, there are LOTS of biz casual slacks options in your size in the US. How can we help you?
(Corduroy is not biz casual in my book and no one will convince me otherwise I’m afraid. They are 100% casual).
Tara!!! So good to see you back on the forum. PLEASE get a pair of pinstriped black slacks asap. I’m champing at the bit to dress you.
Medusa, post a separate thread on your questions about the different dress codes and we’ll have you sorted in no time.
Winnie, your points are valid and in certain professions, frivolous biz casual attire will not work. I have executive clients in very conservative environments and they have to keep it sleek and serious - but always with personality and good fashion sense.
