Black Blazer - thoughts? - YouLookFab Forum

I'm still searching for a replacement black blazer for the one I have which is showing some wear and tear after three years of heavy rotation. I'm looking for "classic with a twist" - a classic shape but with something a wee bit different than a typical 2-3 button blazer.

I adore the Alexander Wang blazer that CocoLion posted here http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....for-those-... but alas, my neck is a bit too short for the style and I suspect I'm a bit too large for the size offering.

I have had this one in my eBay cart from my favorite seller for a few weeks now. It is Eileen Fisher in petite sizing; open front (no fastener) with an interesting "lapel"; no bells and whistles but not completely "corporate" either.

Thoughts on this type of neckline for me?

And Denise (CocoLion) - if you see this, I am also still considering the Studio blazer from Express which you have and I think would work on my short upper torso.

ETA: And sorry to be a bit of a forum hog in the last few days - getting back into the creativity of style and LOVING it!

Very nice! I like the length for you. I personally wouldn't view the open front as a problem as I never button blazers, do you? It might even contribute to the fronts hanging more nicely than in a fastened style.

Adelfa - I never wear my blazers buttoned either. I like how this jacket has the shoulders and structure of a blazer, but in a more relaxed style.

I think it looks good and has that little bit of different that you're searching for. Since you never button your blazers, the open front seems like a bonus.

Shannon, I think that is the EF jacket that I have, or it is quite similar anyway. Since it works well for me I think it would for you too. I love the simple cut with the bit of interest from the label.

Yes, I like it, and the lapel doesn't look very high at all, if you are concerned about that. It's got a touch of femininity with the curved piece at the bottom of the lapel. And EF is one of your faces, right? So I think it's a good one to try.

Hmmm...I tried a jacket with that type of lapel a couple of years ago and it was horrifically unflattering for me. Basically where the lapel cuts back in draws your eye straight to the belly bits. Ymmv.

Worth a try. The lapels might hang a little low on petite you though.

Definitely better in the petite sizing.

I really like it, but there's no way to know unless you try! I find that I always have to try things on to be sure. I like the lapels, and the lack of button closure wouldn't bother me, as I always leave my jackets open.

Eileen Fisher makes such quality stuff.

I really like it. It meets all the criteria you listed.

I remember shopping together for a replacement black blazer a year or so ago and that the fit was so crucial that it might be better to shop locally for this item. So many of them were very very close but not quite right. A proper fit on a blazer takes it from very nice to WOW and you deserve wow.

It's a gorgeous jacket - but I'm totally unable to predict how a jacket would look like or fit on anyone - lol. It definitely looks "you" to me though.

I just picked up my new favorite black blazer @White House Black Market. It has a great fit and the small faux leather trim on the shoulders, sleeve, and colar give it an edgy look and feel. I'm sure it will be my "go to" price this fall and winter.

I love the lines on this and think it'll look great on you. The front detail and slanted pockets seem like they'd be visually lengthening, and the front suggests an hourglass shape. I can see chances of this working more than not, but can you return if it doesn't?

I like this and if the fit is good, it would easily become a workhorse as I could deceit working with so much of your wardrobe. Worth trying.

Love the lapels-they come closer at waist-so can be very strategically placed and flattering, so really worth to try!
