Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Battle of the LBDs - Need a tiebreaker!

Since the other thread had gotten a bit wordy and long, I thought I'd post a separate thread.

Of the dresses I had posted in that thread, the Express black dress seemed a good choice. Today, DH and I were driving around running some errands and he thought he spotted a homeless dog. We spent a whole bunch of time looking for the poor dog but couldn't find it :-( So, I had just enough time to hit the mall close to us (no Nordies there ) to get the Express dress but they told me it had sold out in my size since they're having 25% all dresses right now. Since the mall was getting ready to close I went to a nearby Ross for some kitchen linen and found a cute Max & Cleo dress there and couldn't resist taking pictures of it:

The dress is so not me at first glance, but something about it jut appealed to me. DH insists this is the best of all dresses so far. I feel the Express dress is more flattering with a V neck . The MC dress seems to be more a younger, more cutesy silhouette while also emphasizing my bust more than the other. It does however look like an evening dress with satin, lace and all. What is funny is that this is the first time we're both in remarkable disagreement about either one of our outfits!

What do you think?

My continued gratitude for everybody's wonderful feedback!

I missed yoru previous posts so not sure what sort of event the dress will be for, but I wanted to say that I think this dress is really nice on you. I can see it with some killer black stilettos and very simple accessories to finish it off.

Vani - love this dress on you.

Sorry to hear about the lost dog :0(. Hope it found its way home after all.

Vani, both dresses are GREAT. You look beautiful! Am I right in saying that you can’t get the Express dress in your size? That’s still my first choice, but I believe the fabric wasn’t stellar. Sarah mentioned something about that I think? I can’t judge the fabric from the picture. This dress is pretty too!

Niva, I think this dress really flatters your figure. I would actually say that you should get this dress and STILL look for an LBD that you love. I think that the lace makes this a little different than a basic LBD, so you would still have room in your wardrobe for one, but the MC is so flattering that I would purchase it regardless.

I think that both dresses are stunning. The first one is beautiful for your figure but I suspect you can find something similar elsewhere in a better fabric if that was an issue.
The second is more unusual and also fits you beautifully, you cannot go wrong. It does nothing bad for your bustline-hubby is right in loving it!

Hmm, I think this dress is pretty and unusual. Definitely more formal. I do not think it's unflattering over the bustline, but it does draw attention to it...less because of the neckline and more because of those panels that go over the bust. It is not unflattering, but it is something to be aware of. Keep in mind that just as Shiny has a shoulder fixation, I have a bust fixation :p This is not something I talk about with the general public, or they get the wrong idea...but here on YLF I think I"m safe!

Both of the dresses are gorgeous on you. I would get the second one and keep looking for a simple basic LBD in a nicer fabric.

I really like this dress, it is classy. I think the length of it keeps it from being overly formal. It looks good on your figure too.

Aw, thank you so much for your lovely feedback everyone :-)

Jean, DH will feel vindicated when I tell him ;-)

Angie, That is what happens when I post half asleep. My posts confuse me too when I read them the next day :-D You understood right, the store in the mall close to me was out in my size; when I called the other stores this morning they they didn't have it either. And yup, Sarah was right, the fabric of the Express dress gives it a more casual, cocktail party feel to it than evening. I'll be looking for a similar dress in better fabric. I'm glad you like the Max & Cleo dress :-) It still doesn't make sense to me why I like it; ruffles are just not me :-)

Maya, LOL! You and I share this "bust fixation". I think it is only natural for us busty gals because the bust is more "in your face" that most other parts of the anatomy women are concerned about.

As for the anniversary dinner update, it seems it isn't destined to happen anytime soon. DH had a bad bout of acidity today so we rescheduled for next Saturday. We'll see if it happens as planned but in the meanwhile I might post some styling options with this dress.

Vani - you look gorgeous in the MC dress, please get it!

The MC dress is gorgeous on you, which makes me think you are just made for dresses since I don't think you've posted one that doesn't look good. Since this one is of better quality, I'd get this one over the Express dress.

I love the MC dress and I'm especially fond of dresses with pockets. You can have such an I don't care attitude with your hands casually tucked into your pockets.

I think your are right to look for a similar dress to the Express dress. When wearing a simple shape the quality of the fabric makes all of the difference.

Wow Vani, this is really tough to pick because all of the dresses look great on you. Its so hard to judge fabrics in the pictures, but you should definitely try to take that into account when choosing since they all look so lovely!!!

Thank you ladies! You all helped it made it so much easier for me :-) I returned all the other dresses and am working on the accessories now. At the very least I have a sure bet for the Holiday party if I can't find anything then.

I'm late but want to say that the strong black vertical line in the middle of the chest seems to deflect the eye from your bust rather than emphasize it. I really like this dress on you.

Posted 6 months ago

I agree with Joy re: the vertical line. It's a lovely, lovely dress on you!

P.S. In your shoes, I would have gone with the dress my DH liked, if only to be able to hold it over his head when I wanted to buy a second dress that I liked. "But I wore that one FOR YOU! Didn't you say how much you liked me in it? Consider it your anniversary present!" ;-) ;-)
