I'm going to a charity auction on Saturday and wearing a flattering fairly-low cut black jersey dress with a red and white pattern. My question is about hose. I see that the trend is to wear black, opaque tights with a great pair of black heels -- but I am extremely fair-skinned and very blond and when I tried on the tights, I felt my legs looked very clunky and didn't fit with the rest of me. The same goes for the sheer black hose I tried on -- the black legs just looked off with the rest of my pale self. But when I go without anything on my legs, all I can see is my pasty white legs. What about very sheer nude hose? Is this out of style? Can I wear sheer hose with my black close-toed heels? Please help!

I personally don't have a problem with nude hose, but I know that is hotly-debated, with some women feeling it looks out-of-date. I think that as long as the color matches your skin tone so that it doesn't look too off (i.e., don't wear suntan hose when your arms and other exposed skin parts are pale), it is fine.

Also, I encourage you not to feel embarrassed of your "pasty" legs. Your skin color is your skin color, and there is nothing wrong with that. I see so many pale women lamenting how "pasty," and "blindingly white" their legs are, and I don't get it. I don't think that skin color should be something that anyone--no matter how light or dark--feels the need to apologize for. There's nothing wrong with flaunting your pasty self!

I'm not sure about sheer nude hose with black shoes Stefanie, I hope Angie chimes in on this one. For the record: I have nothing against nude hose, I especially love the micro fishnet variant.

Have you tried micro fishnet hose with your black shoes? Maybe it's just a matter of your eye having to adjust to the look? Or how about pairing the dress with tall boots and then adding black micro fishnets? (maybe it's still too hot for boots where you live?).
