About your wardrobe and personal style

Anyone watching the Golden Globes?

Just curious - it would be fun to share notes on the outfits :-) I'm a total sucker for award shows and love the glamour. Right now I'm swooning over Eva Mendez' necklace. Stunning!

Antje, I was trying to watch while also trying to decide what I have to wear to a 60's event (organization started in 60's celebrating a birthday) tomorrow night. I agree with you that the necklace is stunning and different for this event. The gowns I saw were all lovely and appropriate, and I liked the great variety of styles and colors this year.

I am! Blog post is about precisely that tomorrow. I’m keeping you in suspense. I LOVE to watch award ceremonies too.

I was wondering--what's up with all the beige? I don't feel it is flattering anyone wearing it, even Penelope Cruz! I just though, "meh." Also, one shouldered dresses? :P bleh. The only person who really pulled that off was Laura Linney, but again, beige dress.

Speaking of Laura Linney, I'm glad she won--the John Adams miniseries was fantastic!

Oh cool, I'm glad there are some fellow award show fans out there. And it's a great time to catch up on YLF at the same time :-)

Yeah, I'm a big fan of Laura Linney (though I haven't seen John Adams; I've liked her in several movies.)

I've loved Kate Winslet's hair and the many big bold dangling earrings, including Sally Hawkins'.

Worst look so far in my book: Laura Dern. Hated the hair, and didn't care for the dress.

Anna Paquin looked delicious in her dress, it was cut so perfectly.

Agree that there is too much beige... And it's interesting to see the one-shoulder numbers - I remember Angie saying that this is a spring trend. Some work, some don't, I think...

Very interesting. No one has mentioned my list of favourites yet! I was dreadfully disappointed with my gal Penelope Cruz. And J lo gets my vote for worst dress.

I have do admit that I am not watching, although I did look through internet photos of the gowns, and I thought that Megan Fox looked stunning. I have been watching 24 instead, it was season premiere and I am a huge fan.

From what I could see:

For best dressed, I liked Salma Hayek, Demi Moore, Tina Fey, Kate Winslett, Anne Hathaway, Christina Applegate, and Eva Longoria.

I thought Angelina Jolie and Drew Barrymore looked dreadful. And my friend said she thought Maggie Gyllenhaal looked like she had a bed sheet wrapped around herself. I though Renee Zellwegger was candidate for worst dressed. She looked scary! Like a weird, black-gauze-wearing vampire bride. Not a great look for her.

I also didn't watch but I looked at pictures. I don't really "get" awards show dresses. I don't really like most of them usually. Maybe I'm just not a very glamorous person?

Am I the only one that did NOT like Freida Pinto's dress? I was shocked to see what high marks it seems to be getting. She is a gorgeous girl but I just didn't care for it (although I do like gold against her skin tone).

Am I alone? Everyone seems to be giving it a high score and I thought it was one of the worst, after Jennifer Lopez.

I agree with you Maya. The color is very flattering on her, but that's just about everything I like about that dress.

Oh yes, I forgot about Renee Zellwegger. The worst!

I actually thought Drew Barrymore's dress was pretty nice, much better than what I've seen on her in the past, but I hated the hair.

I did not care for Tina Fey's dress - but I love her so much, she's just the best, and since I find her so funny and smart and "real" I don't ever blame her for not having high fashion sense, I'm really forgiving that way ;-) Her speech made me laugh out loud.

I haven't seen some of the others in full view yet... (and I don't want to look online, so I don't spoil it and accidentally see who won - I like to keep up the suspense ;-))

Oh! Antje has actually mentioned one of my favourites. I stand corrected. And Ana too for that matter (in a later comment). I was not wowed by Frieda’s dress but she gets away with it because she’s so dainty, exotic and pretty.

Oh, yes Maya. I didn't think it was offensive, but I don't like that color on her at all.

Oops, sorry Antje! I didn't realize it was still on there in Seattle. I'll try to keep my lips zipped so as not to spoil the surprise. It was a good show. :)

I thought Tina Fey's dress was nice because she has a small chest and can get away with something that low cut. It was kind of a departure from what she normally wears, and what I would expect to see her in, so I gave it a thumbs up for an interesting mix of daring, out-of-her-boxness, but also keeping it fairly down to earth.

I guess when you are dainty you can wear pretty much anything and get away with it.

I didn't find Freida's dress offensive at all. Jen's is what I would call offensive...although even that isn't offensive so much as ridiculously unflattering.

Jen who? Jennifer Lopez? I didn't even flinch at her dress - she's worn so many weird creations at award shows and other events that I don't really expect a "best dressed" look from her.

I didn't watch the awards show. Went to see Grand Turino instead. Amazing movie. They showed a preview for "he's just not that into you." It has Ginnifer Goodwin in it. Ana, has anyone ever told you you look like her? I thought she looked so much like you, but with longer hair.

Yes, Lopez. I don't know. It never gets old to me I guess. I'm not an avid follower of celebrity style and awards shows, so when I see something awful, I gawk at it for hours.

I loved Drew Barrymore's dress - I love the retro 50s vibe of it -- but the hair! Ugh! Same with Cameron Diaz. Great dress, horrible hair. What was up with that??

Add me to the list of award show junkies! I had it on in the background as I was doing some other things so I don't think I caught all the outfits. There were definitely not alot of wows this time around. I guess Drew Barrymore was my favorite in terms of her dress (the hair was a bit much though). I also loved Eva Mendes's look and the jewelry totally made the outfit. Anne Hathaway was O.K. although I thought the navy was a bit stark - she looked so, so pale. Renee Zellwegger might have been able to pull it off if she had gone with black under her dress instead of nude. Kate Winslet - classic & pretty. Boy she just gets more and more gorgeous with age. Loved the color of Freida's dress although the dress itself was not a winner. What was worse was the way she had her arms pinned to her body the entire time - it was as if she was afraid it would fall if she didn't hold it up!

I was so happy to see Slum Dog Millionaire score so many wins. But Shah Rukh Khan (one of India's most beloved actors) looked so goofy with what appeared like a sequin tie under his tux??? And he just came off like a dork when he was introducing the movie (I think he mentioned something about pelvic thrusts...).
