another pic of denim jacket- keep or return?

I'm trying to decide on this denim jacket from the gap. Here it is with another dress. I need it to work with dresses because that is mostly what I will be wearing it with. It still seems boxy and I'm not sure a smaller size will remedy that situation

And for comparison (mainly because *I* wanted to see them compared) here is my old denim jacket which I wore today. I think this one is too big on me. It is also gap and a bit longer than the new one.

Is that St. John's Bay from JCP? I have that one in white! I think the fit is fine- try scrunching the sleeves and popping the collar.

no, they are both from the Gap. I will scrunch the sleeves for "real life wear" but wanted to show the true fit.

The new one looks to fit well across the shoulders and through the arms. Mine has a slightly nipped in waist which i prefer, however i'm not sure if this is the denim jacket norm? If nipped isn't the norm then yours looks pretty perfect x

OK that's bizarre- mine has that exact same pleat detail on the front and I have never seen it before. Mine also fits bigger/longer than the Levi's Trucker one th at I have, but I kind of like that they are not exactly the same. I had a question whether or not it was cheeky enough, but Angie gave it the thumbs up.

I like the first one better than your old one. I think a more fitted one would be even better. Have you tried AT Loft? Taylor had a great one in a recent post. I am still debating about the fit of jackets- it is hard to find the perfect fit but there are many to choose from.

The new one definitely fits you better than your older one. I think the new one would work with dresses, but you want a more fitted style, you should maybe take a look at other ones.

I really like the new jacket, especially the color and the length. The fit looks great everywhere, but I can see where it could be just a little more nipped in at the waist. Could it be taken in, since it looks so good everywhere else?

I see what you're saying about the boxiness. Like others have suggested, could it be tailored a little to give it more curve and fit? Or are there more structured denim jackets out there?

I think it's a little too boxy. Have you checked Dress Barn? They had some really cute fitted denim jackets a week or two ago.

I think it looks great - love the dark color, the pleat detail etc. You might be able to tailor it to get a little more nip at the waist - I believe that Angie had hers tailored to fit too.

I think the new one looks great. It fits perfectly in the shoulders so tailoring the waist might be the best option if you want to make it less boxy. Much better than your old one!

I'm leaning towards returning-- or atleast continuing to look at other options. Dusty- I will check out Dress Barn- they always come through for me! Thanks ladies for your feedback. Whatever did I do before I found YLF?

ATL has good options at the moment. I like the dark denim jacket quite a bit.

Try the Levis one in the store. It's fabulous. I saw it on Antje a few weeks ago and she's been wearing it non stop.

I have considered the Levi's one, but wondered if I needed a darker wash. What do you think Angie? What did you think of the fit of the one I posted? Does something seem off? Are the pockets too big?
I'll go check out the LOFT one, but again, I see that it's a lighter wash.
sigh.... so much work to find the right jacket.

I'm always late to the party, but finally have a moment to say that this new jacket looks a bit better than your old one, but I think you can do better. It does look too boxy to me (or something along those lines), but I do think its not flattering enough for you!

Try ATL, like Angie and Taylor said, and go from there. Unless this one is super reasonable and you want to put the savings into some tailoring through the body? Sometimes it is SUCH hard work to get the right proportions, but when you do, you'll know it, right?

Do you have a Levi's store in your mall to try Levi's on in person?

I wonder if it's the Gap jean jackets? I have one that I bought a few years ago, and it's boxy, too. I'm retiring it, because it's too big, but the shape is unappealing to me now, too.

It's really cute, but I agree, it's a little boxy. I wish it had a bit more nip in at the waist. You know what might look nice is a denim in more of a blazer or jacket cut, something with some seaming and shape.
