1. Shirt is cute, pants seem kind of dated and not a great cut for you

3. Love the dress, would wear with hose- a bit short maybe

I like how you've styled everything. The sheath seems too short but could be worn with leggings or microfishnets. If the shirtwaist were my dress I'd take off the belt loops and wear a leather belt and shorten it so that it no longer has that stitching detail at the hem (although you are tall enough to be able to wear it like it is)...and wear it with leggings. This one looks a bit like the utilitarian dress style that Angie blogged about.

Yay! Closet sweeps tickle my toes. Here’s my 2 cents without looking at anyone else’s comments:

1. Sweet blouse – toss the pants. Not your style. They look mature.

2. Fab skirt! Sort of retro.

3. Sheath dress is okay but not stellar. Neckline is not your best and the length is short. Is that a 90’s dress?

4. Empire waist frock is adorable. Needs gladiators or boots to kick it up a notch and perhaps shorten the sleeves to elbow length.

5. Skirt dress is KILLER.

I love Joy's idea about hemming up the last dress and wearing ti with leggings and a leather belt.
The second to the last dress is ok- maybe a blazer or cardi over it would update the look a bit.
I agree with accessorizing the black sheath- you can do *so* much with this type of dress (including wearing it with leggings).
I think that the red skirt looks cute with the belted sweater.
I'd keep the first blouse. It fits nicely, and you can layer and under it.

I think everyone is pretty much in agreement here, but here are my thoughts anyway!

1) Shirt = keep. Pants = pass over - too dull for fab you!!

2) Love the skirt!!! Is it a tad long on you though?

3) Good basic, but needs accessorising!

4) As for 3, although its a bit more interesting on its own!

Thank you everyone!! Your assessments make total sense. I have decided to shed:
-- the pants
-- the sheath dress (yes, it is from the 90s, guilty as charged, and has a matching jacket -- complete with shoulder pads -- that REALLY dates it)

Keep:
-- Satiny shirt. Perfect with a pencil skirt.
-- Red & black funky skirt. Can imagine it with a black turtleneck and tall black boots in the fall.
-- Shirtdress

My real conundrum is the brown empire-waist dress. The fabric is heavy enough to make it a fall/winter dress, meaning I would need boots, since the brown boots currently in my closet are cowboy boots and riding boots.

Does anyone have a suggestion for boots that would kick this dress up a notch?

Laura - I agree with what you ended up with - sorry, I'm chiming in late. Though I can see ways to salvage the sheath dress. I don't have boots suggestions for the empire dress. However, you could also add interest with an unusual necklace.

I'd have no problem wearing that dress with black boots. What other color boots do you have? Really I think it is a neutral so you could pair the dress with anything - brown would be the easy answer but not necessarily the best answer. Might be too blah and not enough contrast. Black would give contrast.

Yes! Wear your patent black boots with the brown dress. Super nice with your moto waistcoat too!

Yes, I agree with Angie -- my least favorite is the black sheath; it doesn't really do anything for you.

Love the items you are keeping, and I think you should keep the empire dress! It seems really versatile, given the neutral color and simple lines.

I am very late to chime in here, but would agree with what has already been said - to get rid of the pants and the sheath dress. The shirt dress is incredible on you!

Oh, great! I really wasn't too happy thinking I might need to get boots just to salvage the dress. If I can wear black boots, then -- perfect.

I have a question about the sheath dress (may it R.I.P.). Why is it difficult for me to fit a classic sheath? Over the years, I have tried on many and no success. They make me look flat-chested and hippy and manage to emphasize every pear tendency I have! Meanwhile, Kristen absolutely KILLED in that sheath dress at NAS! Is there a secret to finding the right one, or are sheaths just not for my body type?

Straight sheaths with high necklines like the ones I wear are just not the best style for your body type, Laura. But you rock an empire cut and sack dress with the best of them :0)

Thanks for the input! I did consider the sheath with leggings, since a bunch of people suggested it, but the fabric of the dress is very business-formal -- hard to tell from the photo. If it were more of a twill, something a little more casual, I would have considered it (like the Esprit dress that Marianne posted in her thread).
