WIW to work days 7 and 8 - YouLookFab Forum

Day 7 layering started with a navy base of a lightweight turtleneck and jeggings. I added a beautifully made taupe vest, a scarf and a pair of blue suede booties. I headed out the door in another fuss free outfit.....or so I thought. I don’t know why, but the hem of the turtle neck kept riding up under the vest. Odd. That has never happened before. I unzipped my vest, but that didn’t help. For some reason the fabrics were not friendly. I took my vest off, but then became cold, so I put it back on. I thought the silk scarf would be a winner and liked the dose of color it provided, but the scarf would not stay tied. The bow kept loosening, so I tied a knot. That kept loosening. I found myself adjusting my vest, turtleneck and scarf all day. For a casual looking out fit, it sure was high maintenance. My happiness factor was my blue suede booties, but the rest of the outfit frustrated me.
Hmmm, maybe my frustration with yesterday’s garb spilled over to my feelings about my puffer coat?

Today was a better day. For day 8 my base layer was burgundy. I paired a soft burgundy turtleneck sweater with my burgundy Talbots equestrian pants. On went a black sweater, a necklace and a scarf. I tried out a pair of booties that coordinated with colors in the scarf. I also tried a pair of tall boots. My first topper was a black Moto inspired sweater with some zipper details. I tried on a longer open front knit jacket with faux leather trim. The outfits were very similar, but I decided upon the tall boots and the longer topper. Todays’ happiness factor was that my outfit was fuss free. That and my tote bag. She’s an awfully fun sidekick!

Thoughts about Day 7 can probably be limited to color. How do you think the taupe looks?

What do you like or suggest for changes to my Day 8 outfit?

The burgandy looks great on you. And l love the booties you considered for your second outfit. I like the tall boots too but those booties really caught my eye!

I really like the taupe with black. You proved that taupe can be brightening. Do you ever wear the boots from the second outfit with the taupe vest?

Thank you Pat P. The booties are Sorel, so they are weather resistant which is always a plus and they add a little fun to any outfit.

Joy, yes the tall Born boots and the taupe vest pair beautifully together. I have worn them often.

#1 and 2 look ok, but perhaps a bit too bundled up. #4 and 6-8 look great!

How about wearing the taupe vest with the burgundy column of colour and the taupe boots? Skip the scarf, and add some golden jewellery instead if you like.

The dark column of colour in #1 and 2 would look even better without the taupe vest and with just a beautiful non-neutral scarf. (Both of those you have shown will be fine).

Nice outfits, my favorite is the burgundy with the booties. Burgundy suits you really well.

The Cat, your observations are spot on. I do like to be warm, but have to be careful or I do look too well bundled up. The collar of the vest comes up very high and is stiff, so adding the scarf was not a good style choice. I will wear the burgundy with the taupe. I like that color combo. Leaving the vest open to show jewelry may combat the bundled up look, too.

The burgundy is fantastic I like it with the booties and with the tall boots. I hate when my shirts ride up so you have my sympathy. Your tote is awesome.

I love the outfit for day 8, with the darker topper, tall boots and the patterned scarf! The colors and texture look well balanced. And that tote is gorgeous!!

Shevia, the shirt and vest were like two squabbling children all day long. They required more attention and energy than I wanted to give them. They will be separate for all future outings.
Aurore, colors and textures for the win. Sometimes I think I should edit something from an outfit, but on day 8 I do think everything worked well. The tote is my favorite for the winter. The colors are neutral enough to go with almost everything and the pattern mixes nicely with several other patterns. Most of the time I am wearing a solid color winter coat when carrying the tote. The tote and a winter scarf make my outerwear a bit more exciting.

Mainelady, your day 8 outfit is fabulous! The colours, the shapes, the scarf, the tall boots and the bag - PERFECTION. I like also the version with the booties very much.

The taupe looks great with the black in day 7 outfit.

1st i love a column of color...so both of these outfits are right in my zone! i quite like #1 with the vest...but suggest wearing the scarf looser more like you wore the scarf in day 8....(and re the turtleneck that creeped up, i hate that...could you it tucked in...) i like both versions of day 8....

Thank you Katerina and kkards. I was very happy with the day 8 outfit and will repeat it, but next time with the tobacco and black booties. The booties play nicely with the tote, too.
Kkards, yes, a different turtleneck and tucked in if need be. The one I had on had too much fabric to tuck in without adding bulk.

Aren't scarves great? They are terrific outfit enhancers, AND they enable us to cope with frigid temperatures.

Thank you, Windchime. I agree that scarves are great enhancers and enable us to be a bit warmer. I have several that I haven’t tried with my hair yet. I need a day with lots of natural sunlight to experiment.

Without a doubt, I find Day 8 to be fabulous. That burgundy loves you and the fit is sublime.

I feel your pain about Day 7. There are days when things just do not work out as well as we had hoped. I am thrilled that your blue suede booties were not part of the problem. They are gorgeous.

Love the burgundy on you. I have been late to the burgundy party but have embraced it this year and am now having to tell my self I don't need another burgundy item, but there is so much good stuff. You aren't helping me resist. But I don't have any burgundy scarves.... I love the way your scarf also picks up your fair hair.

Karen, maybe there are places for burgundy in your style goals. If you love it and it loves you, see where it can enhance your style.

I love the taupe vest. The stitching is beautiful. That’s too bad the outfit was annoying, because it looks great. Silk scarves often have a mind of their own, in my experience.

Thank you JAileen. The vest is a Blue Willis and the details and stitching are incredible. It is hard to capture them in a photo. I agree with your assessment of silk scarves having a mind of their own. This one was a gift from a student and I really wanted to honor the family by wearing it. I think it is going to be tied to a handbag (tomato red or black) for future outings.

What great boots you have. Sad to hear that #7 did not work, because it looks so good, but great that #8 worked as beautifully as it looks. Your tote is indeed a fun side-kick!
