WIW: Sorting out closet - dresses

Hope it's ok to post a few conversations at once, I read Angie saying to put different outfits or groups of outfits in different posts, but please do edit or tell me to get rid if it's not ok!

Not sure about this dress, but I think probably because it's a bit smart fo me (as you can probably tell by the amount of tattoos I have, and the shaved hair side, I lean a bit towards the casual alternative style

Hi Meg I just commented on your jeans post & my main question is what style are you going for? The first dress minus the cardi suits your body but if the dress is not your style then whether it looks good or not is irrelevant.

Same story with the other 2 dresses they fit well & I love those lace up boots but I'm having a bit of an issue reconciling your clothing style (the dresses seem a bit conservative) with your ink & hair. I'm imagining sonething more glam grunge in a dress:

That makes a huge amount of sense, I am trying to work out what I do and don't wear, and what looks good, and I keep taking these dresses out, going 'oo they look good' and then putting them back and never wearing them! I think you're entirely right that they're a bit conservative, also I never really have anywhere to wear dresses.
Have really appreciated your opinions and posts on all the threads, btw Also those dresses linked are gorgeous, I need to start using pinterest for more clothes!

Yep I love Pinterest I pin heaps of stuff although not necessarily because I want to wear it but certainly helps improve your style eye.

Kiwichic has said it so well - it doesn't matter how well something fits if it isn't you then it isn't going to work. Have a look at some of the UWP (urban warrior princess) posts in the archives - this style may speak to you.

I think that second dress looks fantastic on you. I also like the first one. Maybe edge them up with a leather or denim jacket.

That navy dress is really nice on you, but I would consider altering it a bit. Shorten it and cut off the bell sleeve and make it a ballet sleeve. I think it would look less dated and timeless, in fact. You could dress that up or down for a lot of wear.

I love the striped dress on you. It fits really well and looks great with the ink. I think it needs something very dramatic at the neck and, maybe even with a crazy color of tights like mustard or orange to give it a bit of personality, with boots or brogues.

The last dress, I think should be shortened to wear as a tunic with leggings. It looks so much like the striped dress that I think they are redundant in your closet.

They all fit well, but don't really seem to suit you as is. That is the trick, isn't it? Make it your own.

I like the shrug, but not with that dress. I think, with your coloring, a bright green T or crisp white shirt and jeans would be fabulous.
