WIW: Faux LBJumpsuit - YouLookFab Forum

I am having the craziest time with this top from J.Crew! You may recall my Faux LBD post: http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ual-friday - well, I now also have a faux LBJ (I have an even worse time with jumpsuits than I do with sheath dresses, so separates is definitely the way to go for me!). I have been keeping an eye open for black dressy track pants that are inexpensive, because I haven't known how easily I can wear them, and didn't want to break the bank on something I might rarely wear. I found these American Eagle ones at Marshall's for $16 over the weekend and thought I'd start experimenting. Today was the craziest day at work - lots of running around in and out of the office on a super hot day - but I also had an appointment where I needed to be somewhat proffessional. I am very open to suggestions for further styling of this, or if people aren't crazy about the two pieces together, but I have to say that it was incredibly comfortable and as cool as I could get under the circumstances. I felt pretty good about the versatility factor of staying cool and moving around, but also looking presentable. I also tucked "THE" clutch into my laptop bag so that I could come and go without lugging the big bag everywhere. Sorry about the crazy bird pose, but it was really hard to photograph the black in a way that the lines would show. Plus, it's proof that I could MOVE in this. I kept the jewelry to fingers and hands, and in a spontaneous move the other night, after 15+ years of bare fingernails, I painted them all dark. Strange things like that happen sometimes in my world...

What's the consensus? I'm open to thoughts on proportion, styling, or whether these particular separates work together...

I kind of love...including the nails, which I am very jealous of.

I think your nails really add polish, (no pun intended,) to the look, and Im always impressed with how you put seperates together to create a look that works for your shape.

What a fabulous idea! I really love the detail on the top. This is a brilliant alternative to actual jumpsuits (which are dreadful for me to find to fit my long torso), and a person can use the bathroom in an outfit like this, too! And you have the most beautiful green eyes.

The faux jumpsuit looks good! And negates having to find one that fits correctly both top and bottom Love those pants on you, they do look very moveable and have great drape. I also really like the light colored nude sandals with this, much lighter and fresher. The dark nails work quite well with this look ^^

I missed your original post with the faux lbd, which is fantastic! I think this looks great too. And your tree pose is pretty cool too. Great clutch, and I love the nails! I have not painted my fingernails in soooo long, even though I always have my colorful toenails. Maybe I'll go for it again one of these days, and make peace with the fact that I'll probably ruin the polish job in a day or two.

Super creative idea to pair these separates, and it looks fantastic on you! Black is one of your colors, isn't it? I really like your clutch, too.

I'm noting with interest that you aren't wearing the tracks pants full length. I love this style pant and haven't found any yet that are long enough for me. But seeing how great these look as you've styled them makes me think I could also try wearing them cropped.

(PS I'm totally going to sport something similar tomorrow, thanks for the inspiration!)

Windchime: The length of these is really weird - trying to wear them full length stretches them out and takes the drape out of them (and I'm only 5'5") so scrunching them up the leg helped, I thought. I think you should totally try it - just make sure the band is tight enough to stay put when you walk around.

Aida and Shedev: I can't wait to see your renditions!

Echo: thanks for the compliment about my eyes. They are actually blue, but in later years, it has been really strange how makeup and certain lighting makes them look greener than ever before (especially since they are blue with white flecks, not yellow). I'm not sure what has changed... But I'll take it, since I think green eyes are so much more interesting!

Tricia and Janet: thanks for the nail love. I am surprised how much I like it. I ordered this clear top coat from Jamberry that makes high gloss polish matte finsish. You can't tell in these photos though - for some reason they look shiny but they aren't at all. Tricia, Jamberry makes nail stickers that heat up and bond to your nails that way so that you don't have to use toxic polish - I thought of you! I didn't order any though because I'm not crazy about the patterns. I just wanted solid, so I did the nail polish instead. But they have animal print... which made me think of you too!

Sarah, I saw that Katie is now a Jamberry, rep...I'll have to check into them, though I too prefer solids over pattern.

Sarah, that looks amazing! Not to mention, comfortable. Looking at your outfit, I'm very struck by how great that neckline looks on you and how terrific the trimmer top is with the full trousers. I also love them at the midi length. So smart and so much more practical than an actual jumpsuit. Great idea!

Thank you, Suz! This was such a surprise to me... And I appreciate your opinion about the neckline. It is higher than I usually wear, so it feels different, but kind of nice.

Ooohhhhh...me likey! I adore the proportions and those pants have just the right amount of droop and drape if you know what I mean. And your attention to the details in your accessories totally make your outfits.

Oh I LOVE this Sarah! Just so cute - and it really does look like a jumpsuit! I really like the nude colored sandals with it. If you ever want to dress it up - you could add a cropped black jacket and low heels?

Wonderful idea Marley! I love that. I don't think I have any low heels... but I have high (and high-ish) ones. I am looking forward to trying a lot of things with these pants, so I appreciate having ideas!

Great faux jumpsuit look! I mocked up one myself a while back before I bought an actual jumpsuit just to see if I'd like the look. I hear you on the nails - I paint mine about once a year maybe, sometimes with 3 or 4 years bare. I like the bold, darker color.

Sarah, first off, congrats on becoming a YLF Veteran and you are a wise source of information here. Love this faux look and it's more practical than a jumpsuit and I like the detailing on the top. Killer bird pose, too!

Woah! Gorgeous! At the risk of sounding creepy ... I think you have beautiful eyes! And you wear black fantastically well! I also like the choice of light colored shoes here.

And nails .... pretty! I tried painting my finger nails .... But mine chip in a day's time ...so back to sporting natural nails. I am going all out with my toe nails though

Wow, great idea! I think this works. I have no additional styling ideas, sorry, other than to suggest maybe wearing a statement necklace instead of the rings and bracelet—the statement necklace might stand out nicely against the black.

I do love the nails. I think that it helps the black seem less stark, because that's where you're able to add color. And you've chosen a great shade of red...I love deep red nail color.

Whoa! love the faux jumpsuit idea. I have always wanted a jumpsuit but just can't seem to pull the trigger. This is a great way to get a jumpsuit look with much more versatility.
