WIW Bombogenesis 2018

Today’s is not a post about a work outfit. We have a wicked winter storm going on.

Today’s style choice was all about being warm, cozy and what would fit easily into snow pants, boots and a big coat. While inside I am enjoying the comforts of cozy clothing and being snuggled in safely. I have let the wind blow away most of my goals for today. I still took a pic of WIW as a part of my ongoing study of color. Today’s look features one of my most casual looks ever. One I will only wear when hunkered down at home or at our cabin.
Clean skin, but not a bit of make-up
Zero jewelry
Ralph Lauren red waffle weave split hem tunic
Black fleece lined leggings,
Red and white LL Bean Rag Wool socks
Cabela’s shearling lined slippers

Before going outside to shovel I will add:
Red and black buffalo check infinity scarf
Columbia Black snow pants
A gray Northface down jacket
Cabela’s black bomber hat
Thinsulate lined leather mittens
Sorel Joan of Arctic boots

Today’s happiness factor is a red and black buffalo checked throw that I am wrapped up in as I sit here watching the storm rage. It is the perfect accessory.
Thoughts about red. It has always been a great neutral on me. Now I am thinking that the color seems a bit harsh. I will try it again sometime when I have a bit of make-up on and in different lighting.

Mainelady, I am in southeastern Pa and while we probably will not get as much as snow as you and besides there is no way to measure the amounts since it is blowing sideways, it is freezing here. You look so warm and comfy! I am sitting here in my pj's and new Ugg robe sipping hot chocolate anxiously waiting until my DD gets home safely from work. If she is not home soon I may have to switch to a glass of wine.

Hm, I was going to say that I think the red is a great color with your hair, and I like the no-makeup look! You look fresh, cozy, and happy.

Danusia, your new robe looks perfect for today’s weather. IKWYM. I hope your daughter arrives home soon and safely. DH and DS should be out of work and heading towards home. I asked my DIL to text me when my son is safely home. We are on the coast and have had some mixed precipitation which should keep the snow accumulations down a bit. The winds are becoming more fierce. If there is any good news it is that the current weight of the snow keeps it from drifting much. It began snowing here at noon. When I went out to shovel at 3:00 we had 4-5 inches on the ground. I think we have a long night of plowing, snow blowing and shoveling ahead of us. Maybe it will seem more fun if I consider it date night.

Thank you SarahD. Maybe I can still wear the red. I wasn’t feeling too confident when viewing the picture or the image in the mirror.
Fashintern, today I want to be swallowed up by a big scarf when I go outside. Minimal skin exposure will help me keep warm and dry.

Love this posting! We are getting the same nasty storm here in eastern Mass. My indoor outfit is very similar to yours, but not as well color-coordinated - grey Lee jeans, cuddleduds thermal, lands end black tneck, a Brooks Brothers men's fair isle heavy wool sweater in blues, wool socks, Merrill shoes, no makeup. DH will be getting out the snowblower soon before it gets dark to tackle the driveway, and I don't think I need to help, but if I did I'd be wearing a purple Columbia fleece jacket, black merrill snow boots, cobalt Eddie Bauer parka, wool hat DH got me in Alaska with bears dancing on it, purple neck gaiter and ski gloves so old I can't remember the brand. There is a Cabellas pretty close to me but I have not bought anything there yet.

Drinking lots of tea, in a grey cashmere wrap, fingers crossed that the power stays on. It's so cold that it's hard to get the house warm and it's only going to get colder for the next few days. I imagine it's even colder where you are Mainelady!

We need one of Suz's very heavy puffer coats! If only Amazon had their drone technology up and running and it worked in high winds and freezing temps....:-)

Chris your inner and outerwear sound perfectly toasty for the freezing temps and this storm. I hope your power stays on and you can keep your house temps comfortable. With the stretch of figid temps and little snow coverage many home heating systems have been taxed since before Christmas. DH has a Plumbing and Heating company. He and his crews have been responding non stop to frozen and burst pipes, heating systems that are struggling to keep up and/ or running out of fuel. With the blizzard, as lease homes will have some good snow to insulate things before we plunge into the deep freeze again tomorrow.
My old workhorse LL Bean parka ( circa 2005) finally had to be retired. I just ordered a new down puffer coat. It is due to arrive tomorrow. I hope it is as gorgeous as Suz’s!

I can't imagine the weather you're having. While last year was a record year for us precipitation-wise, yesterday when they measured the snow we were at 3 percent of normal.

Wow, Mainelady, being out working in this weather would be a huge hassle, although all your DH's clients will no doubt be so grateful to see him. As I'm typing this one of the Boston meteorologists is explaining AGAIN exactly what bombogenesis is.

Thank you JAileen! I am hoping that I will still be able to wear the majority of my favorite colors, even if the hue needs to change a bit.
Chris, yes, clients are so grateful and appreciate the service even more when travel conditions create extra challenges. I especially appreciate knowing that everyone has made it home safely and hope they can all get some much needed rest. We have a bit of a lull here and will get some rain and sleet before precipitation changes back to snow, so hopefully the plowing is done until very early tomorrow morning.
I appreciate being informed about the weather but have decided to read the updates. This is a big storm, but listening to the forecasters add dramatic voices is getting old.

we too are bitter cold with frigid wind chills here in NE ohio....i am currently in cuddle duds base layers, black warm cozy joggers, and a fleece sweatshirt and my warm ll bean slippers!!! hoping no frozen pipes! waters running in all faucets at a low level, cupboards are open where there is plumbing fixtures....drinking red wine to stay warm. lol

From my screen, I think the red scarf and tunic are very flattering, Mainelady. They sure are beautiful with your hair! My face is more red (one friend calls it "ruddy") as I've aged than it ever used to be, and for that reason, I've wondered if I shouldn't wear red anymore. But it still seems to work well on me, and I gets compliments when I wear it. I guess my hair and eye color balance out my skin color. Or something!

Don't overdo shoveling.

I didn’t know bombogenesis was a thing, thought you were turning into a bombshell, which isn’t exactly supported by the picture of you in thick layers or what you wrote, lol.

I just looked it up. Such a big drop in air pressure sounds like headache time to me!

Besides the bad roads, your husband and son must work in the cold a lot too. I’m glad to hear their customers are appropriately grateful.

Thank you Dianna. I love living in Maine and enjoy all 4 seasons. Usually our winters are beautiful and we spend a lot of time outside. So far this winter has been unusually cold with little snow until today.

Thank you Windchime. Aha! You may have hit upon something I hadn’t considered: how dark eyes, skin and hair color can create balance. I do think my dark eyes may be help me be able to wear some of the darker colors that I enjoy so much.

Fashintern, you have me laughing. No, no, no. Not a blizzard bombshell, although that is an interesting idea.

Thank you Angie, I hope you are right. I used to be able to wear red-orange, too. Crossing my fingers for team red.

I don't think the red looks harsh at all. Your hair looks fantastic!

Red is a happy color for me and it does make me feel warmer. I add quite a bit of red and plaids to our winter decor, because to my eye it adds visual warmth and coziness.
Thanks rachylou! I saw a meme on FB that my part of the state had no survivors. I am happy to report that a few of us managed to outlast the blizzard. Our schools have a 2 hour delay to allow time for clean up. With the giant snow and and drifts the kidlets are going to have a wonderful time at recess today!

I agree, La Pedestrienne. I enjoy the snow, but not the windchill. By the time recess rolled around the temp was 20 degrees, but the windchill was -5 degrees. Another day of inside recess.

2 hour delay? You guys are tough! Where I grew up, that would shut us down for days. Maybe your district isn’t as rural as mine was. We didn’t quite have hills & hollers, but we did have hills, pretty small roads, and probably not enough snow plows.

We are pretty tough here. Many schools acoss the state were closed for a second day. We had some mixed precipitation which limited snow accumulations and the storm ended earlier than predicted, so with 2 extra hours we were able to get into the parking lot and have all exits cleared.

No blizzard here in the midwest, but the temp was -6 with -25 windchill this morning. Brrrr! I was grateful for the sunshine, at least!

Beth Ann, stay warm! Cheers to being grateful for the sunshine. It doesn’t do much to warm our skin right now, but it makes everything happier.
