Pil, my son is a little wonder with music. He's turning 16 this week, and we discovered his gift only 2 years ago. First with piano. He quickly reached a good level, playing Philip Glass etc. BY EAR. Then, in May, he told me shyly that his teacher brought something in class called a "musette" (we later learned it was in fact an accordion), that he had tried it and had fallen in love. We went to the music store "just to see" and by chance, they had a few accordions, the "cheaper" ones at $300. So we all got together in the family to get him one of those: he has been playing every day on it since, and is doing concerts in school. He's even in a band. One key had become "sticky", making more sound than wanted, so today we went to get it fixed. We learned that at this level of cheapness, fixing it was impossible. It was in fact that my son had worn it through (in 6 months!) and was ready for a more expensive kind (which may come, later. Later).
This summer, he would pull a chair out on the porch and play javas while I was pulling weed from the lawn. I thought I was in an Amelie movie. We are simply amazed.
