Tonight we went to a fellow diplomats' house warming party. I was so inspired by Angie's jazzed up black lace http://youlookfab.com/2012/10/.....lack-lace/ that I decided to brazenly copy her look.

I swapped the leopard print for metallic studs.

I added multiple bracelets to catch a "fashionista" vibe.

I added a chocker faux pearl necklace under the buttoned up collar, very discreet, but for which my husband criticized me before leaving the house - saying everybody would say I was an insignificant tasteless Canadian - he was joking of course, but still. He really didn't like the idea, and when asked replied it was because white pearl on white shirt under a _buttoned shirt_ above all seemed like an ultimate fashion faux pas for him. Right. He knows nothing to fashion but loves to correct me about it. I persisted and I think I was right.

I had fun at this cocktail and was not overdressed. A woman there sported the same silk blouse I was wearing yesterday with my green dress (http://youlookfab.com/welookfab/topic/wiw-10-10-12)
and I must say it looked completely different. But it made me feel not that bad for wanting to wear this summer item this late into the season.

You did not thrift a Prada top! This is a standout outfit! So beautiful, artful and creative. I adore these proportions a d I love that this is "cocktail" appropriate without being a stereotypical cocktail outfit. I think Angie will be proud of your "brazen" copy cat x

OH my!!! That is K to the POWER of K (in my book). Absolutely stunning! And you look radiant and blooming. What a great interpretation of Angie's beautiful outfit, and how well it suits you!

The shape of that boat neck lace is perfection with the wide palazzos, balancing your figure beautifully and drawing attention to your gorgeous face.

As for your husband's critique...alas....sometimes our loved ones are a bit behind the fashion times! Perhaps your husband is like mine. He is so unpredictable. Sometimes he will frown and criticize a look that I think is pretty ordinary or certainly not risky in any way. Other times he will cheer out loud at a look that would repel many other men and even causes some women to do a double take! And it's not at all for the reasons one might expect. For example, he loves the BF jeans look. But sometimes a certain set of earrings will give him pause. Something so nondescript that it surprises me.

I hope you had a wonderful time at this party; you looked spectacular.

Deborah: yes, I thrifted a Prada. For $50. And in my size! I could not believe my luck. They had a couple of lace tops there, but after trying this one, there was no turning back. Later I realized it was a Prada.

Suz: Yes, hubbies are unpredictable with what they like or not... I have no idea what mine had against the pearl necklace. I suspect he wanted to see something more flashy there but my whole point was to keep it discreet. In any case he was full of compliments afterwards.

What a stunning outfit! I love the lace (thriftef Prada ... Great find!) with the sleeves of that blouse and wide leg pants. Fitted yet voluminous, very nice proportions on you. Husbands can be funny about fashion. I wear pearls with buttoned up shirts often, hope I'm not committing a faux pas too!

Where do you go to thrift in Ottawa (I am there next week)? When I was a youngun there was Barbdorf Gordman and Allegro in the market, in addition to Sally Ann etc.

Nicole, I got this at a second hand shop in New Edimburg called "Clothes Encounters". They really have nice things, but it's always a hit or miss for me, depending I guess on whose seller came before me.

If you come to shop in Ottawa I can only recommend Milk shop on Dalhousie and St-Patrick. This is where I got the MMS clutch and my yellow jacket (below) among other things. There are a couple of other independent clothing shops in that street corner too, and another second hand shop across the street called Young Janes.

Another area to shop is Richmond street.

And another, Bank in the Glebe.
