WIW- early summer outings

Hi all

I have been trying to take photos most days to create summer fallback options. Here are some looks from the past 10 days.

Wine dress - work and school visit for younger son who is moving to high school next year. Before the heat arrived.

Shorts and tank for hot day working from home.

Coral tank and maxi skirt for drinks out with some lovely friends pre Christmas.

My newish dark teal dress- worn more casually than last time I showed it. I tied it differently and wore new slides for a BBQ(grill) at my sisters place. Details of the silver ring made by Brooklyns husband for me- I wear it often!! And a titanium cuff that Jon gave me a few years back.

Home from the gym- keeping it real!

An experiment with this tunic which is 10 years old. I put on the silver shoes then swapped to the pewter- I thought it was more balanced. Was I right?

Two work looks with the same pants. Different cream tops and shoes. I preferred the first but both will get worn regularly this summer.

Lastly - a new patterned tee- loving wearing yellow again after many years. I will probably only wear this with jeans or denim shorts- but it is fun to wear a new colour.

Always fun to see the Oz and NZ brigade go Summer while we wrap up in the Northern hemisphere.

LOVE the teal dress best, Sal. Such an elegant length and style. And Brooklyn's hubs' made the ring??? Fab cuff too. Sublime all round. WOW.

#4 and #5 are fun inverses of each other - like yin & yang.

The colours of the top in #6 are gorgeous with your hair.

Your varied Summer looks in high heat are fabulous. Nicely done.

You’re showing me how this hot weather business is done!
I can’t make out what the white fringe stuff on the shorts and tank at home is, but it looks good. That’s my favorite of this set. Love the cuff. (I didn’t realize you two knew each other or that her husband is an artist—makes perfect sense with her style). I prefer the darker pair of shoes with those pants & tunic.

Thanks Angie- I had three days of monochrome and liked it! White pants for me are layering pieces I have worked out.

Fashiontern- I met Brooklyn in Sydney earlier in the year and she gave me this lovely ring- made from a coin. Isn't it great?!! The shorts are patterned - black with abstract cream and gold flowers/ splashes. I don't wear shorts as well as you do but I like these ones.

With the white pants look- I felt darker shoes grounded the look- to make it balanced. I have a white slip and next week I might try this with a white layer under- not sure if I will like that but worth a go!

Love the black tunic/white pants. I actually prefer the silver slipons, but just slightly. Both shoes work, I just think the closed toe and white sole are more interesting/unexpected.

Great jewelry all around! Love the cuff and special ring, but also the triangle necklace in #1 -- that's a great piece.

So, I was gonna say pic 2 was my fave, then I was like the red is super great, and the white pants one, and the ‘confetti’ tee... and now I’m up to *like* up to all of them... great for summer!

Thanks La P - I think I could make the silver slip ons work with a light necklace - I don't have the right one right now. The triangle pendant is super useful actually - I also have a gold circle and along with my glass and silver ball from Sarah The White they are my most worn necklaces.

Thanks Rachy - I liked them all with 1 bring my least favourite- loved the dress in winter but didn't love it with these sandal boots- will bring it out again in autumn.

Especially love the dressed-down teal dress, maxi skirt in first image, and your new top with the bird-of-paradise print. Oh and those silver shoes with the tassels! Those are so sassy and sharp!

You're doing a great job of getting Bold and Elegant in your summer looks! First set looks super; do you have a high-low type tank for the middle (shorts) outfit? That would highlight the print a bit and add a little extra movement. Teal dress still looks fab but the jewelry really steals the show there! I also prefer the higher-vamped footwear with #4; they're a little funkier, but the silver slides still look good. Both looks in #5 are great, although the first looks quite a bit dressier than the second. Love the new printed tee! Would be great with olive for an earthier vibe or with white for a more crisp graphic vibe.

Aida - you always give positive helpful feedback, thank you. I do have a black hi-low tee that works well with these shorts - I always wear them with a black top as I prefer them this way on me. There is a split on the footwear choice for the white pants look - so maybe I can go both ways. And I agree - olive pants would be good with yellow printed tee - I don't have the right white pants (mine are very much pants to layer over rather than wear with a cropped tee). I was keeping an eye out for olive jeans/utility pants but have failed to find any to date.

Fabulous Sally! I am envious of the variety of colour and silhouette you have achieved here.

Love the teal dress. Can you remind me where it’s from? Great colour and an elegant length. Will be great for summer with white or cream, tan and blush.

I really like the first set of looks. And the long black tunic over white look. I prefer the slides, but both shoes work to my eye.

Fashiontern, DH is not really an artist. But thanks! Ringmaking is a hobby. He learnt it from YouTube! He makes them from old coins. Older coins are pure silver and have nice details for use as a ring. Plus we like the history and recycling aspect. We thought an Australian florin ring would be a nice souvenir of Sally’s trip to Australia. Here is a photo of a similar one. (Sorry for hijack Sally.)

Apologies for another digression here Sally but I thought you might like this jacket. It is similar to my kookai jacket but I think you might prefer the colour. And it looks like a good alternative to a denim jacket. A bit maximal!

Sal, I like everything on the second photo collage with the black dress, and pewter over silver footwear in 4. You have discovered how to look fab in the heat!

Well, I’m in awe, you’ve made great fallback options quickly, it usually takes me much longer to adapt to a new season.
The teal dress is so gorgeous and elegant.
Both shoes work in pic #4, but the slides probably feel better for Summer.
Love the new tee and the simple outfit you made around it.
And I always have a soft spot for Sal-the-70s-queen #1.3.

Angie - what I meant was that for me (a reluctant white jeans/pants wearer) wearing the white pants layered or with a dress/long tunic makes me more comfortable. These pants are more jegging like so designed that way too. I have tried a few pairs of white straight and boyfriend jeans on to wear with hip length or shorter tops and I don't feel right in them. I would however like a wide legged pair of white trousers - I had a pair years ago that I adored - sailor style. And yes Brooklyn's husband is very very clever isn't he!!

Skylurker - thank you for your nice words. I was born in 1970 so I did experience pretty much all of the 70s and have such a soft spot for those fashions. I find that if an outfit works, I take a photo of it, it does stick in my mind. I have upcoming occasions over the next three weeks where most of these will be worn again in mind (except for one which will go away until April next year).

Thank you Joy - the heat here is about 25C and humid so not extreme compared to the midwest or Australia - but it has been a while since I have needed a jacket.

I also tried on the gold and magenta one but I wanted a simpler one that could be dressed up and down more easily. My friend has the black and white daisies - I haven't seen that on though. I have a cream tuxedo jacket from Kilt too and also purchased my pewter Rollie Slides there (Rollies are Australian I think).

I do like that jacket a lot!! Of course it has warmed up here now and I am not needing jackets....I am off to see my friend who makes clothes and has a design business this week so I will see what she has going first and get back to you.

Thanks Sally! I will check out Kilt. I know what you mean about jackets. The warmer weather (and humidity) has just hit here and even the thought of wearing a jacket makes me feel sticky. They can still be useful in summer at night and early in the morning and in air con of course. I hope you find something with your friend. I passed on to DH that you are enjoying the ring. Love your dark teal dress. Wonderful colour and a versatile style. If you need something to wear over your shoulders, I guess it would look great with a cream or white lace bolero of soft shawl.

I like all of these. Especially:
The shorts outfit, we need shorts in our summer really.
The monochrome outfits, I like the pewter shoes in the first choice and the more dressy shoes in the second.
And of course the bird of paradise top! Orange, yellow and olive, what's not to like? I of course would want shoes in one of those shades

Thanks Jenni - we do need shorts ( they are my least favourite thing to buy and wear - I prefer bikini shopping). And I am loving wearing the yellow again - I would be up for yellow shoes but the top works well with the pewter, off white, tan and white that I already have. It is actually brown not olive in the print so definitely warm toned.

Summer Fall Back Options are what I need in life!! I'll just copy you!!!

You make amazing in those red and teal dresses. Dresses are such an easy and comfortable fall back option. I have to figure out why exactly I shudder at the idea of wearing a dress. There has to be some negative association with dresses from my past.

And of course, I commend you for number 3. Yay you.

I could write a novel if I commented all these lovely outfits one by one. I will keep it short and say that I find them all fab, for various reasons. It is always so pleasant to look at your pics Sal. And now that we are in the middle of a frost it is even more fun!

Thanks Sterling. I find dresses such an easy summer option
- they are an easy fit on me (compared to pants or skirts)
- they are so unfussy
- they are cool

I have friends that never wear dresses or skirts - so there is no need. I wonder if you should try on lots of different styles and see if there is a style that you think would work for you. Shifts are really easy, and there are some great interesting (not pretty) dresses that are quite minimalist. I would love a shirt dress but that is a style that I have failed to make work on my body type - but I could see one on you.

Thanks Sisi - I like my outfits but in most cases I don't like my photos. I post them because I feel I show lots of repeats, and I love seeing others photos and getting ideas from women around the globe. Thank you for the lovely compliment.

Lyn - thank you. I liked that shoe option better too. I have a bit of a funny thing with black and white (or other high contrast colours). If wearing dark pants and a light top I need light shoes, and if wearing light pants and a dark top I prefer light shoes. Otherwise I feel unbalanced. I am going to experiment with a white slip under this dress with the silver and white shoes.
