Carla, I would love to someday report that there are white jeans I “love”on me! Maybe? Someday? I love them on other people and always wish they translated a little better on me. It comes down to self-consciousness mostly about the lower half of my body, and conventional wisdom holds that white draws the eye. I know there is nothing *wrong* with how my body is made and there are times I just DGAF and want to wear whatever I please, but other times I feel more vulnerable. I’m working on that.

Mostly, I need to decide whether white jeans are what I want to wear for, as Angie says, this particular leg of my style journey. Do they translate to my style? Is it just that I want to “be able” to wear something, as though i were auditioning to be a member of a club? Because honestly I know any of us *can* wear anything we darn well want to. Trying on these jeans was another exercise in testing them out for my body and my style and considering whether I would enjoy them.

Jonesy, you have a more IT-ish build than I, so I’m a little surprised at your ambivalence about the white jeans you’ve had — they seem to work more naturally on your body type than mine. I’d be curious to know what makes you pass over your white jeans. I do think you tend to darker color palettes, as I do. In summer I tend to lighten and brighten up, but I don’t get many chances to wear jeans in summer because it’s so hot here, so I would need to consider whether white jeans are worth it for me as a fall-winter-spring thing. I think that is one reason why white shorts seem to work for me more than white jeans.

That said, I saw that Old Navy has a pair of supposed mid-rise boyfriend white jeans, for a ridiculously low price, so I’m gonna try them. If they work but I don’t feel compelled to wear them as jeans, I can cut them off into shorts!

Janet, I am wondering if white jeans just aren't RATE/edgy enough for me and my style? And maybe that's why they don't quite work for me, even though I keep trying :). As you mention, it might be something similar for you, along with your climate constraints.

I also have very rigid ideas about the fit of pants and jeans (e.g., I can't handle any whiskering or bunching or that V thing that happens all the time with pants now that they are high rise), and with white jeans, these minor fit issues are plainly visible.

Jonesy, I think you're right -- about the RATE/edgy thing, for you and for me. I do feel like I have to style them carefully, flattery issues aside. And absolutely, fit issues are always more obvious in white than any other color!

Beautiful outfits, great top in #1, and wonderful white jeans #5, so gorgeous on you.

I know it doesn't help much to hear that others think you look great in something if you don't feel it yourself, but FWIW I think you look terrific in white jeans.

Here's an issue I sometimes have with white jeans, which I only wear in hot weather. My preferred topper in summer is a white denim jacket. If I forget I'm wearing white jeans and reach for my white denim jacket, suddenly Elvis.

LOL at “suddenly Elvis” April! That should be a band name. An aside: there was a band back in the 90s called Suddenly Tammy, which IIRC was a reference to Tammy Faye Bakker.

Anyway, that’s a good point about white denim. I do have a white denim jacket, but I also have a light wash blue one, plus a couple of light utility jackets, so I would actually be in good shape for white jeans-friendly toppers! So at least there is that.

Love that red and blue top, Janet!! And those jeans look amazing on you, but I hear you on all the reasons you are postponing them. I am waiting for a pair of Eddie Bauer mid rise white jeans. I will report.

I can't help but agree with Jonesy, and you, in that white jeans just don't have that edge or that something that you like in your denim. Shorts don't really count because they are a whole different beast. I wear white jeans a fair bit in the summer, but the " best" I can do with them is make them elegant or dressy with a silk tank and interesting footwear. If it's chilly enough (usually in the evening) I add a black leather jacket. But for everyday - they can skew preppy/middle-of-the-road pretty easily so to avoid that, I usually go boho instead. But yeah, for you? Eh - I'd not spend any money on them, I agree. And yes to Suddenly Elvis for a band name. You've now inspired today's outfit (it's flipping COLD here today !) : white jeans, chunky cardigan, and puffy slides.

Laurie, good luck with the EB jeans!

Lisa, yes, you speak wisdom. I have a bit of shadow preppy or boho style, particularly in summer, but I need to make sure I temper that, or I feel off.

I have a feeling that if the ON mid rise jeans work, I may end up chopping them off into cutoffs anyway. I do have a very old pair of Gap white jeans that are cut off to knee length. They’re not as loose as I would like, but I’ve considered wearing them recently, since they are not actually tight. I like the idea of that blue and red top with white shorts.

Oh, and may I please have some of that cold weather? I just sweated through three miles — real feel of 95 degrees here before 11am and the humidity has dropped to 78% but it still feels like a swamp out there. Welcome to the first official day of summer, blech!

We went from 30 last week to about 15 today which is ridiculous for this time of year . It’s downright chilly in the house today ! I admit to preferring this over 30 though - lol.

I would return to get them (the white jeans, Janet!:-))

Janet, you are just so flattered by all these colour choices - of course I already associated you with strong blues and red, but the icy pastels are amazing too.

Interesting about the jeans - I think they look amazing, but I do get the points that they don't have your usual edge ... they do look fab though if you feel like indulging your shadow persona!

EB jeans were a bust. I got the same exact jean in a washed grey/black and they're a perfect fit and fabric. Curvy straight leg. Same exact jean in white is a totally different, thinner and stretchier fabric and fits like a skinny jean. Bummer. Going back.

Laurie, that’s a bummer! I hate when that happens.
