What are you listening to these days?

I don't watch TV and rarely movies, but I do enjoy staying updated with music and exploring different styles and sounds. Pop, rock, rap, (new) metal, jazz (especially Latin), blues, sea shanties, world music of all types, dance, dubstep, you name it- if it's new to me I wanna hear it

Some newer discoveries:
Willow- she has rock stuff that reminds me of Paramore, beautiful Hindi chants, etc.
Karilene- singer songwriter with interesting themes like GOT and female pirates.
Mean Mary- ahmazing on the banjo with a deep rich voice.

My nephew and son are very different people, so when I heard they both like Linsey Stirling, I took note. Another violin act I’ve recently learned about is Black Violin. Both are very energetic.

I love both of them! Had "Crystallyze" (the dubstep version) on repeat about 5 years ago!

It's not music, but I've had oldtime.radio on quite a bit. I have listened to old radio shows before, but this "station" has different channels so I can choose the genre, or I can even make custom channels with just the shows I want. There's even an option to include old ads between the shows. (I learned the original Mr. Clean jingle!) Unlike just streaming files, it's great to have the playlist done for me, and I can "tune in" to hear what's currently in progress, just like real radio.

Ted Talks are good too I keep forgetting about the ones I saved on the app to listen to!
I took off my antenna to put SUP on car, so no radio for me for now, but I did listen to NPR sometimes.

I’ve been streaming “rainy day jazz” on YouTube when I need background music that lets my brain wander during work hours. If I need motivation to knock out a task, it’s Studio54 radio on Siriusxm.

After work, I need quiet. Lots of quiet. Lol.

News radio, since we are in election season in Canada (insert massive eye roll, but what can we do, I have to brush up on the parties and policies).

But poolside we keep going down 80s music rabbitholes on YouTube Music and it's fantastic!

I’m an indie rock girl and listen to a fair bit of Sirius XMU but like most stations they can get a bit repetitive. I also listen to my “alma mater” (both literally as it’s the college station where I started as a student, as well as where I worked most recently). You can listen on the app if you search for WTMD radio, and fun fact, they still use my voice for the top of the hour station ID. It’s a good eclectic mix of music.

Some songs/artists that come to mind that I’m recently enjoying or revisiting:

- Tune-Yards (very creative and catchy) their single “Hold Yourself” from the latest is really good and accessible.

- Wavves - “Sinking Feeling” - I’m always a sucker for a cheery-sounding song that’s actually dark when you listen to the lyrics (a holdover from the 80s when I listened to a lot of Depeche Mode, the Cure, Smiths, etc)

- Arlo Parks - Great voice and songwriting

- TV on the Radio - no, they’re not new but somehow my husband and I have been on a bit of a TVOTR kick lately.

Other recent favorites:
- Sylvan Esso
- Sleater Kinney
- Phoebe Bridgers
- Wilco (a perennial favorite)

I also listen to some creativity and photography podcasts. A recent interesting listen has been the audiobook version of “Let Me Out” by Peter Himmelman, who is a great songwriter/singer but also has developed a business for coaching people to follow their creative dreams.

I’m trying to avoid too much news/talk radio after being near addicted to it in recent years. Too much stress.

Another oldie listening to NPR. I prefer conversation to music except old classical. What you play for your kids will stay with them. I remember hearing lots of waltzes as a child.

Ooh new stuff to check out Can't with 80s anymore though! I even heard steel pan versions of Bon Jovi, Ozzy, and G&R and Cringe Was dying for something new to me reeaally quick! Maybe they'll feel fresh again to me when I'm like 80-lol *
Big yes to quiet after work hours though! I love music, but it feels like having another person there. I generally like it in the car or for yoga- or in person!

*if it's done with an instrument I never heard of and in a weird time signature like 13/8*

Still mainly Classic 60'S-70'S Motown, like Temptations, 4 Tops, Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye (What's going on?) every bit as relevant now. Even my 'new' music is old! Like Adele, Billy Joel, Cher. Sure there's a lotta great stuff I'm missing, but music time is limited, so....it's between what 'might' be good and what I know to be 'awesome'! More interested in new fashion, books, furnishings than music
