Styling a pleated skirt - YouLookFab Forum

Last weekend I bought a pleated look knit woolish skirt for a change from pencil skirts. It feels warm and so soft and comfortable. The fabric is actually not pleated but is knit to look that way. It had a 3-day return which I missed so I'm keeping it and think it will be a good addition.
Unless you set me straight.
1. Worn with old EF cashmere open cardi and matching silk shell, scarf from San, black fishnets layered over nude stockings, old Munro ankle boots.
2. Same but with a black silk shell layered under the blue one. No scarf.
3. Same but with added narrow zebra belt.
4. Close up of skirt.
Is this working? What styling has the best proportions? Too matchy?
Is the skirt too short on me, especially for fishnets?
I welcome your thoughts and ideas for styling. Please be honest. If I should not wear this skirt, I know much younger women who will use it.

Not too short! I really like it with the zebra belt the best. Pleats to me, always seem a little voluminous, so I think the belt adds waist definition. Hope you keep the skirt.

The knit skirt is fun and actually quite on trend. (Some on the catwalks this season). Love it with the booties. Good job keeping the skirt. Love that it's warm too.

I think the skirt needs a little more spunk, Joy. Leave off the cardigan, and add the leather jacket you got from Sandy. xo

I think it's a lovely skirt, and a wonderful length on you, Joy. Of the options, three is my favourite, because, s Cuffcat said, the definition makes a nice counterpoint to the implied volume of the knit pleats.

So pretty! I love the soft blue with the dark charcoal. I like all of the stylings for different reasons. Each look feels modern because you have booties on your feet.

Oh Joy you have something I am scouting for in stores n ebay. But try this with blazers or leather jacket. Cardigan isn't completing this outfit

Oh, thank you for the quick and helpful replies. I'm glad that the skirt wasn't a mistake and will pair it with San's fab leather jacket. I know that will make a great looking outfit. I'm also happy that you seem to feel that the booties look ok with a skirt.

Ooh -- loving the idea of spunking it up a bit. Will you post a new photo if you try a different combination? Those of us who are drowning in pencil skirts would love some inspiration to change up our silhouettes...

Yay for full skirts! This one looks great: neutral enough to work with a lot but unusual enough with the knit texture to add interest to an outfit. Good find! I can't wait to see it styled with different toppers.

Love the idea of it with leather. I really like the color combination, and the booties take it up a notch.

And i love that its not really pleated. Ironing pleats is horrible.

April, I will definitely take photos. It may be the weekend before I wear a skirt, even a warm one, though. Cold, wind and rain-snow mix are settling in.
Thank you, Neel, E and MaryK. I need to play more with this skirt. I hope that it will help me out with some sweaters that seem too short for trousers and jeans. It's fun to try something new this time of year.
Thistle, I've been avoiding pleats for the ironing or expense of pressing if dry cleaned.

Very fun skirt, Joy. I love it with the booties and the pale blue. I was also thinking of a spunkier topper like a leather jacket. A denim jacket could be fun too?

I have something in pleated poly that is kinda similar in effect, though not fabrication, and in playing with proportions I so far came up with 2 approaches for my tops--shorter and boxier than what you have shown, or longer and leaner, down over the hip (maybe to about where the pleats start.

Love the skirt on you and not too young at all.
I remember an off white topper with fur collar you had that maybe had some charcoal beading or sequins in it. Wrong silhouette for this skirt...

I love the skirt! All the outfits look good, but my faves are 1 and 3. And it's definitely not too short. A clear winner! I've love to see if with the leather jacket.

Freckles, the fur collared topper is pretty long..duster length... But it could work. I'll have to try it.
Griffin, it does make me want to twirl :). You gave me an idea. I have a red and grey tweed Chanel-esque cropped jacket that may work with the skirt, also a yellow, white and black plaid jacket in the same shape.

Get out that orchid top too, but not as a twin set! It will work well with the grey skirt. I agree with those who advise to 'toughen it up' with a leather jacket.
