This has been a really fun holiday season - I got to pull out a lot of my vintage treasures and beloved shoes, and play a bit!

These are some WIWs and some planned ahead outfits, that I wore between Thanksgiving and New Years’ Eve-Eve...

#1 In an antique store in Florida, in my parents’ small town. My sister and I took turns trying on this gorgeous full-length mink (where, of course, it has been languishing on a hanger, unwanted and unworn). So beautiful, it still haunts my dreams. But I didn’t want to spend $600! Paired with my low-cut botanical top, worn backwards, a pair of tuxedo joggers, and some Pierre Hardy wedge sandals. None of which you can see too well in the photo. I was ambivalent about my actual outfit, but some teenage girls stopped me too compliment the outfit, which truly made my day.

#2-4 I wore this vintage St John dress on my birthday, to go see The Santaland Diaries, (which has been added to our holiday must-see list, alongside Brian Setzer). I call this my Rainbow Disco Unicorn Dress. I almost fell over with excitement when I found this dress at Goodwill earlier this year. It is gorgeous and in pristine condition, but possibly had shoulder pads at one time. Not anymore. Wore it with Schultz pumps and a metallic Danier crossbody bag.

#5-7 are the St John dress when I got it. I took these pics to send to my baby sister, who immediately said “dibs” on the dress. I have promised to ship it to her on loan, if she ever wants to wear it.

#8-9 These are a try-on of a ballet skirt I found at Goodwill. It has a costumer tag inside, so I think it is from a studio that used to be next door, that did a lot of dance theatre performances. I cleaned and steamed it, and paired it with a velvet and mesh top for a Christmas gala we attended a few weeks ago.

#10 is what I wore to that gala... my ballerina skirt with the velvet mesh top (pulled from my flamenco wardrobe). This photo was taken at 10pm, after I had spent an 8 hour day on a film shoot. I looked a little wilted, but this was an incredibly happy day

I paired that same top with a black pencil skirt for the Brian Setzer concert a week earlier.

#11-14 Every couple of weeks, I sing at an open mic jazz jam. I wore this last week: a laser-cut patent leather skirt by Tibi, a vintage Gucci turtleneck, a vintage Ann Klein long blazer, Wolford tights and my Schultz pumps. I wore colored pearls strung on fishing line, and a pendant my friend made from a coin that had Boticelli’s Venus. Sorry these pics are so dark.

#15-18 I wore this outfit yesterday to a script reading. Ann Taylor velvet pants, Theory button-down blouse, St John jacket, Cole Haan shoes, Coach bag. I put another St John jacket over the red one, making myself The Queen of Shoulder Pads. The cuff links are Pete Pan themed, from Etsy.

#19-20 My friend had a costume party to celebrate her birthday last night. The theme was Princesses and Villains. I’m on prednisone right now for a bad allergic reaction to eye makeup, and eye makeup is off the menu for 10 more days. So I wore a mask and created my own villain: I am Cat Woman’s lazier, b*tchier cousin, Snow Leopard. I wore black leggings and snow leopard pumps.

#21 Vintage Alaia Snow Leopard Pumps. I stalked and hunted these babies for three years on resale sites before getting these. When I found them, I pounced - like a snow leopard. I love them, and wound up performing in the last night. Oops. Surprise sevillanas dance performance for me. These shoes are great.

#22-23 I wore this outfit in early December. Ann Taylor skirt, Danier leather jacket, vintage Gucci turtleneck, Schultz boots, vintage Versace bag.

#24-25. This was a try-on of the outfit I planned to wear, to sing Ave Maria at my Mom’s church on Christmas Eve. I got to Florida and realized... I did not pack the sweater. I wore a peachy-nude top instead, but I plan to wear this outfit when the weather gets warmer. Shoes are vintage Roberto Cavalier.

Anyway, what I’ve taken away from all if this is, I really want to wear everything in my closet this coming year, and work all of my fancy stuff into more everyday outfits, every chance I can get!

Happy Holidays!
