My 30 x 30, Jan. 3 - YouLookFab Forum

I've been wanting to step up my attention to my personal style--again--this year, and when I read Sterling's thread about doing a January 30 x 30 here, I knew I wanted to participate!

I'm at work this week, but it's a very casual week, so jeans are the bottoms of choice. Also, it's really cold and snowy here, and I run cold, so I have to dress for the current climate.

Unlike some Fabbers doing this challenge, I picked my 30 items on Jan. 1. I expect to trade a few pieces in and out of the capsule as the month goes on. Next week I'll dress up somewhat more for work, so the capsule includes work, casual, and Sunday church outfits. Many of my tops are suitable for work or casual dressing. Like other Fabbers, I'm NOT counting outerwear, accessories, or exercise gear in the 30 items.

Also, when I selected my capsule items, I focused most on warmth instead of working with a color scheme.

Here is today's outfit, hat hair and all. Honestly, I wouldn't have picked this cardigan, but it was a gift from DH and DS. I think it would look better on me if it were longer in back.

What Suz said so well. I really like this outfit. The black and white of the cardigan looks wonderful with your hair color. You may get more comfortable wearing this striking piece after you have worn it several times.

Lovely outfit and that cardigan is just gorgeous. I think the shape and the length at the back is just right. Longer and it becomes a little ordinary. Good luck with your capsule:)

Welcome to the challenge. I like your sweater but I hear you about gifts. I am not one for receiving clothing as gift unless i asked the person for something very specific.

Lovely to see you Windchime. Your outfit looks cozy and warm. The cardigan is quite striking and from the pictures looks like a kimono (to me). I like how you have styled it with a simple darker top and jeans. The length is great.

Hi Windchime! I'm so glad you joined in on the fun. I applaud your decision to pull your 30 items together at the start of the Challenge. That is what I have done all previous challenges. Dressing for warmth is definitely going to be the challenge. I had no idea how important those third pieces are in Winter. Learning though.

The cardigan is beautiful. It comes across as both cozy and sophisticated. The black/white is lovely with your hair. And the longer necklace adds sophistication. I don't own any longer necklaces, but I am taking notes on how lovely they look.

SHEVIA--LOL, they shouldn't be focusing on my backside anyway, should they?!

JOY-- I need to try the cardigan will a variety of tops. I have a white lace camisole which I suspect would look great with it, but I'd be too cold wearing it in January.

DEBORAH--I have another black and white cardigan, also in this capsule, which is long all the way around. It has a different feel than the one I posted here.

BELLA--I know exactly what you mean! And DH knows to ask me for specific ideas...most of the time. I think this cardi was partly DS' idea. I guess they told the sales associate they wanted something "really fashionable" for his Mom who "loves style." ❤️ She did pretty well!

KATERINA--Another time I might wear a scarf instead of a necklace.

MAINELADY--Ah yes, the grey hair decision. I colored mine throughout my 40's but stopped around my 50th bday. Sometimes I wonder if I should go back to coloring it again--it used to be beautiful, thick dark brown--and I miss that. But I get enough compliments, and I don't like the idea of using harsh chemicals on my head, so I'm sticking with it for now.

TOBAN--Thank you! A little drama can be a good thing.

STYLE FAN--Yes, it was warm enough for a day spent inside except for walking to and from my car. If I were going to be outside for any amount of time, I'd need a sweater that wasn't open in the front.

Thanks, RACHYLOU! Yes, maybe sometimes it's good to let other people pick things for you; it gets you to try something different.

STERLING--So glad you had the idea for this challenge; it's just what I needed, and it's fun! I bought the necklace about a year ago and wear it A LOT. It adds just enough interest to an outfit without calling too much attention to itself. Now I wonder how I got along without a long necklace!

The palette here is fabulous with your hair and complexion. And the cardi is KILLER. DH and DS did very well. I like the shorter back.
