Mirabelle & Mustard : under Angie’s spell

My last purchases are heavily influenced by Angie, not really surprising since I admire her style.

Last month, I bought burgundy trousers and olive trenchcoat.

This month I ordered her Boden’s Mirabelle blazer, with matching trousers.

As the trousers are cropped, I also ordered high shaft suede black boots from Gabor, they fit and are super comfy but I think they look blah and will go back.

And I ordered a mustard jumper - Angie regularly nudges me towards mustard so I gave it a try. (Forgot to put on my checked mustard/bronze/black checked scarf for the pic, you’ll have to use your imagination

I felt like cutting the tags immediately off suit and jumper but decided it was more reasonable to ask your opinions first : please tell me if something look off to your eyes (well, if you can see anything in the dim November light

I like the mustard, but was instantly smitten with the suit. I personally like what I can see of the boots, but understand sometimes the pictures don’t capture everything. The bottom of the pants in 2 seem a bit too slouchy due to the tall shaft of the boots. I think the scarf would be a nice addition.

Love both the suit and the mustard sweater on you! Mustard really suits you, and the suit is more playful then your usual ones and thus a great addition. The bootie look OK to me, but if you don't love them, they need to go back.

I like them both - it is hard to see details of the navy on my phone. Mustard is a colour I really like, especially with navy. It is a sophisticated bright for winter which suits you well.

The suit, which is fabulous, would be better with oxfords, sneakers or Mary Janes in my opinion. I think you can safely cut the tags on that.

I'm less convinced about the jumper, which looks neither fluid nor sufficiently structured, just boxy. I could be wrong though. Does it make your heart sing?

The mustard colour is fantastic on you, Angie definitely is giving you good advice. What about giving that jumper a little structure by employing a semi tuck?

Cut those tags and enjoy. The suit is fabulous and I love the mustard color on you. The jumper is boxy rather than drapey, but I like that about it. I hope Angie stops by to give her thoughts.

Suit with oxfords as Liz suggests. Cut the tags. I like the mustard sweater on you. It almost looks like a COS sweatshirt in this picture.

Love the suit! It’s a fun addition.
I am not sure about the jumper. I think boxy style tops look better when they are a little cropped. So I would like it to be a few inches shorter. But the colour is fabulous on you and how you feel about it is what counts.

I like the mustard jumper, but wish it were a couple inches shorter. Boxy and long can be tricky style, but it is a great colour. Suit looks fab. Sounds like you can do better for boots.

My first instinct would be to pair the slightly oversize sweater with slimmer pants, but then I'm not sure it's long enough for those proportions. Then I see other people suggesting it should be shorter. So while I do like it, maybe it's just not a great fit or cut oddly? Don't buy it in a vacuum - try styling it in outfits to see if it works.

WOOOHOOOO. We are blazer twins. How fun. It made my day. Isn't the blazer STUNNING quality? It knocks my socks off. It's KILLER on you. (Not that I'm biased or anything). Now I want the matching trousers....

YAY. You got another suit. PERFECT. You can wear the blazer with the burgundy trousers. I enjoy burgundy with navy.

Return the boots if they make you feel blah. Suit needs navy knee-highs and oxfords. (High fiving, Liz).

LOVE the mustard jumper on you. Excellent colour. Do you still have the scarf you wore to the London reunion to wear with it?

I love the suit on you and like Liz and Angie's suggestions for shoes. The sweater looks good to me and I can visualize it with a patterned scarf.

I hope you cut the tags on both. To my eye the jumper fit is perfect, and I really like the patterned cuffs peaking out. You just seem to wear clothes well.

FWIW, I love everything about that second outfit, the proportions and fit. You don’t look like you’re wearing exactly the same outfit and proportions as everyone else. You have this style that’s kind of understated and bad a&&, at the same time.

La Belle Demimondaine (naughty name : thank you. I’m very surprised to hear my style can come off as bad ass, but I take it as a compliment.

Angie : yes, that’s the scarf I mention in the post, looks great with the jumper, but I forgot to put it on to show you.

On shoes : the high shaft boots were shipped back to Amazon. Boden trousers were not as cropped as I thought, so I don’t even need them. Besides, as Delurked noticed, they’re too high for my other, full length, trousers.
Oxfords sound wonderful stylewise, I do like oxfords, but my feet get so cold. I’m an office drone and I stay sitted, motionless, all day. Was wearing boots today and felt cold, I’m ready to burst out my wool lined boots!

On the jumper’s boxyness : that’s what attracted me to it, the length and boxyness. Pictured in front, tucked or welted jumpers look best, yeah, but profile and back views...well, I much prefer the coverage of an untucked, long, boxy jumper these days.

On Boden : I was expecting the blazer to be well made since Angie recommended it. I was surprised by the trousers : half lined. And fit me right out of the box (I usually have to size up on trousers to accommodate hips, and have the waist altered).

How about a heater by your feet with the oxfords? Or fun woolly socks to complement the dots.

Liz : my heart only sings in brick&mortar stores, that delusional magic (because the item might turn out to be crap, actually) never happens when I order online.

La Pedestrienne : you don’t need a suit.
That said, unlike a classic suit, a fun suit is easy to wear with separates

Greyscale : you rock cropped boxy tops.

Angie : a heater would probably burn the building down. It’s an old building built before electricity you know, and way before computers. The floors of our overpopulated offices are a jungle of wires
I already wear wool knee highs, I couldn’t survive with nylon knee highs! I have a pair of navy lace up boots and a pair of burgundy wool lined lace up boots. Both a bit rugged looking for the more prissy cropped polka dots but they will do for now.

I love both of these. The suit is gorgeous AND fun and I love a good boxy sweater, great color on you. I get you with the cold feet. Luckily at my office I have a foot rest that is also a heater (so heavenly when I slip off my shoes) and another space heater. Also a fan for hot flashes

I also have to size up on pants but for the opposite reason to you - large waist and usually have to take in the hips. I'm thinking this means Boden pants are probably not for me.

RobinF : I don’t know enough about Boden (it was my first order) to tell you if all their trousers are cut the same. Their sizing guides for each garment are very helpful, you can check them out and compare the measurements to your best fitting trousers.
