K/R Green & Cream Cleo Dress (ETA update on blue dress @ bottom)

I ordered two dresses from Cleo Petites, and both arrived today. The blue one (same one Suz posted today) arrived in the wrong size so will need to be exchanged.

This is the green/black/cream print dress. It's very comfortable and it does fit but I'm not sure if the side ruching and pattern placement are flattering. So what do you think - keep or return? Please be honest. Thanks.

Hmm, it's OK but it's not wowing me like your other dresses. I love your shoes, but I think the print of the dress is a bit dated IMO. I can't wait to see that blue dress on you, I think it will be a knockout!

Shannon, I love this dress, the colours, the motif, everything. But I agree it doesn't look as great as many of your other dresses.

I tried on all the dresses in my approximate size yesterday, and the blue one was the ONLY one that fit me correctly. But I also had an interesting experience with one of the other dresses; I tried it in two colours; the fit was MUCH better in one colour than the other. I still didn't like it enough to buy, but I wonder if you have a store nearby if it would be worth trying on some more.

Something about the print doesn't sit perfectly with me, either. I don't know if the scale is too large for you or if all the white lines converge to create a strange optical illusion, but I feel like it shortens your waist. FWIW, I don't think the jungle print goes with the adorable vintage green pumps, either - and since we know the shoes are perfectly you, it's gotta be the dress.

I do love the blue one; I hope it is a winner when the correct size comes!

I like the color and sort of the pattern, but the large strap tank top just is not flattering. You've got more better in your closet already!

I don't see a problem with the print either but I am not that astute at patterns (among other things :)) I think it looks quite nice on you Shannon but if you don't feel great in it then it isn't a 10 and doesn't deserve a space in your closet.

I went to the actual brick and mortar store to return it and see if they had the blue one in my size, which they did. I tried on the blue and it didn't even rate a picture for you to look at! The fit was HORRENDOUS on me - in order for the waist to fit properly (which still hit me in the wrong spot) the upper half of the dress was humungous - you could have fit two watermelons in the bust area! Took off, got my refund and left the store.

There's nothing like an evening of trying on things that don't fit to mess with your self esteem and confidence. Feeling off my game lately and rather "yucky".

Yes. I did not feel good in the dress at all Rita and this is one case where the picture is BETTER than IRL!

Shannon, I'm sorry to hear that your experience has caused you angst. I am sure others will agree that you have definitely been on your game lately. You recognized that the dress was not cut well for you and moved on. That is a good thing. There will be something else that works and you will be able to get it within your budget.

The clothing fit models this year must all have had boob jobs because I can't seem to find dresses that fit on top or even tops (nods to Suz) this season. They all seem to have extra fabric and room that isn't filled out by me. It's always been a problem, but this year's worse than ever. Sizing down means it's too small in other places. *sigh*

Dianthus/Goldenpig - you are both so sweet. If it were just this dress, it seriously wouldn't bother me. But I must have tried on at least 10 dresses, as well as a couple of skirts and two blouses. Nothing fit right. I'm just having some serious body issues these days that's all.

Oh....that SUCKS, Shannon. I am so sorry. Both are pretty dresses. And it's doubly disappointing when you've had things from there in the past and the fit was always great.

I must say, the bust in the blue dress is slightly on the large size for me, as well. And the other Cleo dresses I tried on yesterday were pretty much all too large in the bust. In a much more noticeable and much less flattering way. Some of them were also too snug in the hips and some were weirdly bagged out in that area.

So again - it is not YOU. It is the CLOTHES.

And I hope to heaven this doesn't mean they are going downhill!

Thank you for posting that link - it got me my summer sundress. Now we have to get shopping again for yours!

Oh Shannon, I am sorry to hear that both dresses were a bust. But you know what: it means that your perfect dress is just around the corner and it was a test for you: will you go for something so-so but now or will you hold off for the right one. You passed the test and fate should reward you pretty soon!
Maybe you should make another trip to a thrift store -who knows, somebody may be bringing in the perfect dress just in the right time - like your white jacket

I had a similar thing happen once. There was a store I shopped at and it seemed like everything there fit like a dream. Then one season, nothing at all fit. I think they had a new buyer whose taste did not fit my body.

I have seen you in person and you look great and I've shopped with you and know you have a discerning eye and the ability to put together interesting and cohesive outfits. Hang in there. You will find the right pieces soon.

Shannon, this is how I feel about dresses all the time. I would love for a dress to look like this on me. I honestly thought the fit on this was super-slimming on you, though the print bothered me.

You need to move past the body issues (hard, I know!) because you have so many dresses that fit you well. In fact, do you need more dresses?

Shannon, personally I have a TERRIBLE time finding dresses that fit me. I feel like I have to try on 50 to find 1 that works...it's the dresses, not you! Give that Suzi Chin dress a shot - but order the regular size, not petite.

Shannon, I'm 5'2" if that helps. My Suzi Chin dress is a regular, not petite.

ETA: And I find petite sizes fit me best in tops, jackets and skirts. Not necessarily in pants because I tend to wear fairly high heels and then need the extra length.

Ugh, this gives me horrible flashbacks to shopping for dress pants! Everyone is right - it's the clothes, not you! Your black/white tiered Cleo confection, your blue lace dress, the new white jacket that fit perfectly practically off the back of a stranger... more hits than misses, in my book! Please don't dwell on this latest batch, as you are much too fab for that.
