I have a question, and I hope I don't seem stupid for asking, but...
My personal trainer told me to work out at 70% of my maximum heart rate, which for me is only 116. (The formula used was 220 - age x .7)
I told him that for me, I'd have to barely do anything to get my heart rate down to 116. I usually work out at 130, and even then, I could do more if I boosted it for a few minutes. Since I usually cycle, he told me to increase the resistance and pedal at a slower speed. I did that on Sunday, but still couldn't keep it that low. The best I could do, to feel like I was doing anything at all, was to keep it at around 130. Using the above formula, working out at 80% of my heart rate would be 132. It's not at all difficult for me to sustain a workout at 132 for an hour.
My DH noticed that my workout wasn't that intense, even though I cycled for a longer period of time (1 hour instead of 1/2 hour). He thinks I need to go to my PCP and have a stress test done. Keep in mind, though, that my DH has a lower resting heart rate. He can pedal really, really fast for quite a while and still not get his heart rate up to 120.
Should I be concerned? I think my resting heart rate is about 90, but I'm not completely sure. It's hard to find my pulse. I told my DH and DD that I must be clinically dead, lol.
