Here's some of my September and October outfits. Our unusually warm fall allowed me to get away with bare ankles longer than usual.

1 and 2 riff on Angie's dots/plaid/leopard combo. 1 is a glen check blazer (black white and red, though looks grey from a distance) and to break up the all-black underlayers, a cognac belt and leopard flats.

2 is my beloved navy dot sweater with my HEWI Black Watch tartan pants. I have navy block heeled pumps that look good with these, but for a regular on-my-feet day I went with navy loafers.

3 is the same pants with a bright navy T, ankle-ish strap shoes, and a classic equestrian scarf I searched out in Rome years ago.

4 and 5 show my other pair of navy -based plaid pants: with a flared middy blouse and cutout booties, and with a Breton stripe sweater and desert boots.

More stripes, on the bottom this time. 6 with white shirt and strappy shoes, 7 with navy sweater, the scarf, and grey brogues.

I was very happy with 8, and have repeated it already. This striped sweater dress is too heavy for summer yet looks very nautical. The suede booties were a last-minute inspiration. I like how they bring it into fall, and also de-bombshell the above-knee length.

And last, my fake suit look, with unmatched black jacket and pants, loafers, and semituck striped shirt. I wasn't as pleased with this one, any suggestions?

What I've been learning lately is how the shoes make the outfit. I've had compliments on footwear from unexpected sources, and when I thought the rest of the outfit was more remarkable. I am realizing I use footwear to balance the androgyny: oxfords or booties with a dress or skirt, more feminine shoes with pants.
