Gorgeous color on you Tanya, pls keep the jacket, and I don't see the pants that big-with all these fluid fits around, but you certainly know better! The dress is also fab, but are you sure you want to hide your scars all that bad? I feel your pain about that scar but you are a beautiful girl inside and out, so you really shouldn't be that hard on yourself!!

Love that jacket. I fear I may be sized out (I'm a L or XL depending). Off to check size charts. The color is divine and one of my best too (high five to you and Suz!)

I think the fit of the Zara is more current. It's interesting, as you know I have that ponte jacket in cobalt and fuchsia but it fits totally differently on me. On me, because I am super short waisted and I also sized up, it's almost a bf fit. I also don't scrunch the sleeves and keep them extra long. So I still wear mine a lot but I'm not sure I would if it was more fitted like yours.

Ditto Aida on the jacket comparison. I think I got rid of a couple of jackets with a similar fit to your old one because I could not feel fab in them. So I think it all boils down to how you feel in your old jacket. Do you wear it often? Do you enjoy wearing it? If not maybe it is time for an update.
Like Suz I am OK to get a couple of current inexpensive jackets per season as style refresher and if I don't feel them next year it is not too big deal (I still need to work on finding as beautiful higher-end jackets as she got though, lucky duck!)

I completely agree with you Aida and Suz that the Zara jacket is far more current. It is actually very trendy and I really like it.

Suz, I like your strategy. Maybe I can try and adopt something similar to it. I have not reached for the old jacket in a while. I do not really need to new one, either. Hmm, I think a big closet purge with lot of keep/donate posts is coming this weekend.

I am with Aida.

Here is how I am beginning to see it.

I have bought myself two expensive blazers that I hope to last for at least 5 years each. They are so special in fabrication that even if they are not precisely current they are going to make me feel great every time I wear them. One is quite classic. The other is quite unique with style details that do not spell any particular year.

I hope to add an equestrian style patterned jacket to this higher end jacket capsule eventually. I also have two leather jackets.

For other jackets, I'm going to look at Zara pricepoints. (Either at Zara itself, or elsewhere). And I am going to update this type of jacket whenever I feel ike it, without guilt. I might have 3 of these jackets in my closet at any given time. And I just plan to enjoy them. They are the dramatic third piece that helps make an outfit feel current, and so the cut has to feel current.

Tanya, the longer length and looser fit of the Zara jacket looks more current to my eye. Not that the other doesn't, it just looks less so if that makes sense. This is actually an issue I'm trying to work through for myself; many of my blazers fit similarly to the raspberry you already have, and I never reach for them any more. When I thought hard about it, I decided that I need blazers with a fit more similar to how this Zara blazer looks. Longer, looser, lighter weight material. Not sure if that's an issue you're having of course, but thought I'd share what I'm going through with my own blazers.

Thank you again ladies, I really value all the opinions here!

Suz, you are spot on about the jacket sizing. This one I tried is XS, and the store had no S. It was a tiniest bit tight around the shoulders, and I was trying it only over a cami. If I were to get it, I would also go for a S.

I have added a photo of my old raspberry ponte jacket. They are too similar, aren't they ? Sigh.... This always happens to me, I am attracted to items that are newer and cooler versions of something I already have, and then whatever happens I feel bad. If I get the new version I feel spoiled and waistfull because they are so similar, and if I don't I find the old version lackluster and am not excited to wear it anymore.

Sveta, and Janet, yes, the dress fit around the hips is bothering me. It is going to be either the next size up or no dress at all.

OMG, Suz you MUST have this suit - or at least a jacket!!!
Tanya, I hope you get the jacket, it looks great. Actually I quite like the trousers on you, nice modern relaxed look but they may look different IRL.
The dress is interesting but is it puling across the hips? That would bother me for sure!

Thank you, Tanya. I am going to try the S in both pants and jacket, I think. S pants will probably be loose but a bit slouchy. Similar to the fit of my sarong shorts. They do sit rather low on me but I rather like it. I always wear a S jacket in Zara -- never an XS. Must be my shoulder line which is wider than one might expect. My frame is a bit bigger than yours and Angie's even though I am 2 inches shorter.

Thank you for the suggestion and I just have to wait for Austerity August to end....

Thank you all very much for your input, much appreciated! I have edited the post to add the appropriate finds now that I am home.

Suz, you absolutely MUST get this suit! Or at least try it on. The pants are strangely sized XS, S, etc. These are M, and are huge on me, they are sitting much lower than they should, there is at least 5" waist gap. S would be on an normally slouchy side, and XS properly fitting, I think.

As I said, I do not think I can justify the full suit for myself, but I will think about it. The jacket would work great with my wardrobe, as I have plenty of jeans etc. to dress it down. However, I have an old-ish raspberry ponte jacket, that is nowadays rarely worn. Hmm, I guess I need to post a photo of that one for comparison.

The dress, well, I really love the idea of it, but it has to fit right!. I do not mind body con at all, but it might be too tight. I have already sized up to S, but I guess next time I will try M as well. Diana, you are absolutely right about the armholes. When I pinched the dress to see how the altered neck would look like, I had to lift it up some as well. So no decision on it till I try M and consult with a tailor.

The suit is beautiful. Actually, the pants don't look all *that* big, but I think fluid fits are warping my eye.

The dress is very cool, but it is quite bodycon. The creasing across the hips gives me pause. I'd be curious to see it with the shape wear you would use with it. Or is a size up feasible?

Cranberry suit is awesome! I think maybe the jacket is slightly short for pants but it might just be that the pants are too big so sitting too low.

I think the armholes on the dress may be a little too deep? But fixing the neck might pull them in more anyway, which would fix that.

I think I just may NEED that suit to make up for the fact that I purged my fuchsia silk vintage suit....

Oh, I need to try it on at least, right??? Even if it is Austerity August.

I really love the body con dress. I have had some weird troubles with fitting Zara dresses myself in the past. They top portions especially the necklines sat against me very strangely even if the rest of the dress fit very well. So I'm not sure this is an exception, sad to say.

I wonder if Rute is around. She tries on a lot of Zara stuff and maybe could enlighten us about some of this. But I think it is holiday time in Portugal (August).

Here we have first a cranberry suit. The pants are huge, they did not have my size so I tried M for completeness. My lifestyle is such that I do not think I would have an occasion for a full cranberry suit, but the jacket is a possibility as this is one of my best colors.

The dress is a body con midi made of thick material with little mock neck that you can not see very well in the photo. It obviously needs completely different undergarments and high heels. Even though it is very tight, the neck is a fairly I loose and would require alteration. Wonder who has such thick neck and slim body, but I digress. The major selling point for this dress is the high neck, which would cover my scar, though just barely so, after the alteration.
