Both the loafers and the top seem like winners to me. Funny about the ties: they have the potential to drive you crazy, but they're also the feature that makes the top fun and interesting.
And I'm dying to know about the wool sweatpants. I've been looking at those, but I was afraid they'd be stiff or scratchy. If they're not, I'm ordering them, too!

Love both items! In fact, I just "collected" the top....I have been thinking a white top with some interest would be good.

Gorgeous loafers. Please report on how comfortable they are after wearing them for a while!

I love the loafers! They're just awesome. I do like the way the top looks on you, but I share the worries others already mentioned about the knots and possible layering issues.

The loafers are beautiful and look so polished, I really like their narrow profile. I vote yes on keeping the top – like you said, you're looking for variety. This one fits you nicely, the deep armholes will provide a different kind of drapiness and the ties will playfully move around when you move your arms to express yourself... a very feminine point of interest in my opinion. A cami under it should take care of any riding up/riding down issues. Can't wait to see the famous sweatpants!

I love how the top looks on you, but like Una, I think the knots must be troublesome to layer over for instance. But that's me, of course. They LOOK fab for sure. The shoes are a no-brainer, I think - gorgeous.

Lisa: I have not seen those pants IRL. I don't have a JCrew retail nearby -- only an outlet. But I just ordered them. I swear, I feel the need to explain to my UPS guy that I use my house as a fitting room and that I return most of what he delivers. It's quite embarrassing when I am in ordering mode as I am right now!

Anyway, I have the same concerns about the drape, but I am willing to give them a try. Happy to post pics and report when they come in. I really cannot buy more black pants, but these are gray and also casual looking enough to wear while working at home, so they could be a winner if they work. We shall see.

Given so much concern about the top I am going to try it on again just to make sure. I definitely would not wear this under anything except outerwear. The differences are what cause everyone concern but they are exactly what appeal to me -- everything in my closet looks so similar!!! But I do need to make sure I can live with the differences.

Thanks all!!!!

Wow - l love that top - so pretty ! And the loafers! I should have ordered those too - and now you're worrying me about the fit of the booties

I think the loafers are going to be a great buy - keep them !

The top - it' s SO pretty on you - but I have an issue now with tops/sweaters that have that dropped roomy armhole. Getting the top under a jacket might be tricky without it getting majorly creased around the underarm area but that's a personal pet peeve of mine.

And re: the wool track pants - I have had them in and out my shopping cart for a week - but I can't quite wrap my head around the wool content and how they can be drapy without being bulky stiff and itchy. Have you seen them IRL?

Hi Vivian! I agree with the others. I really like both the shoes and the shirt. My first thought was that the ties would drive me nuts, yet at the same time they add a little fun detail to a simple white shirt. It is definitely something great for nights out here and there.

Suz, I have not tried the wool flannel pants, but I really think I am more likely to buy jeans -- even two more pairs -- before I buy another pair of "work" pants. I just wear jeans so, so much more often, and I always reach for jeans when I am working from home or the local office.

Thanks for the questions about the Zara top. This is not for work. It's for casual / night out. (DH and I bought tickets to three events in Sept / Oct, and I am visiting a close friend for a long weekend, so I am particularly focused on having enough nice things to wear "out.") I would not wear it under a topper, except possibly a jacket / coat for warmth. That might be annoying for the traveling part of the evening but I can deal with that. As for the length and a belt, I think I can get away with a low-profile belt, which I may do. I'd rather do that than deal with the inevitable denim slide. On balance, I think the good strongly outweighs the challenges so I am inclined to keep.

Ha! You returned the Turners!! I almost ordered them last night, and then decided not to -- in favour of, you guessed it, more tops!

I was also considering the drapey wool pant -- have you tried those? In the end I held off for a similar reason. Although I'd love to play with the new silhouette, I really don't have that many occasions for wearing trousers as opposed to jeans. And I feared they would just sit there. I preferred to try on in store if I can, later, to see what I think of the fabric, etc. (In my case the return shipping costs are a big disincentive to ordering.)

Now, onto your Zara things.

I love the loafers. If they are comfy and you have a need, keep! (Oh, how I wish that loafers would fit me/ stay on my feet/ not give me horrid blisters.)

I really like the top also. Questions, though -- is this to wear at work, or casually? If at work, would it go under a topper? (Or would the sleeve detail be annoying?) Do you mind not wearing a belt with jeans? (I can imagine that the length means wearing a belt might be awkward. But unbelted jeans might slide down exposing belly?)

I love the loafers! The top doesn't look weirdly cut through the torso, I think the low arm hole is just the intentional design. It looks like a perfect fit, and I love the knot detail in the sleeve. Very pretty on you!

I ended Austere August with a number of online orders -- not so austere, as it turns out. I'm trying to get my wardrobe ready for lots of work and person travel in Sept/Oct. The major holes I have identified are tops and shoes -- especially shoes that will accommodate my increasingly fussy feet.

Although I recently got positive YLF feedback on black JCrew Turner pants, I think I am going to return them. I'm pretty sure I can work with a small capsule of work bottoms and I'd like to resist building up a huge collection of black pants again. (Thanks, ClearlyClaire!)

But tops (especially sweaters, and tops for going out) and shoes (especially for work) are still high on my list.

Today's Zara delivery holds two items of promise. The patent leather booties did not work, right off the bat --- they run small and narrow. But the ink loafers are a good possibility (very, very similar to the JCrew ones, and at less than half the price). Also, I may love this top, but I am a little uncertain about the proportions. Is it cut weirdly narrow in the torso? It's definitely the right size - a M. So, does it work, or not?
