Alas, I think what I liked more than the color of this dress was the shape. I loved the fitted, drop-waist style because it elongated my short waist without being boxy, and the flouncy skirt is just too cute. If it had just been less stretchy and more structured, it would have been a winner. Other dresses in a similar color but more standard shape just leave me feeling bored now. Oh well. I tried!

There was another dress in the same color, but it was all polyester and I won't be having any of that during the hot summer months ahead.

Have you seen this dress?

The color looks about the same and perhaps the fit may be better for you (without tailoring required)?

Okay, I decided to just take the dress back. It's too expensive for me to be this uncertain about.

There was another dress in the same color, but different style, which I'll try instead. The shape isn't as flouncy and cute--more of a sack dress. I didn't care for it on the hanger but maybe once I see it on it will work.

Otherwise I'll just hold out for something else.

I love the color and the alteration would be a big improvement, but I am afraid it would still be a little clingy over the torso. It seems like it is an issue with the construction or fabric.

Maya, if it would look after alternation like in pic 4, I would buy it definetely. But I suppose that tummy dissapears here only partly because of shortening of the torso and in the first place because of you different standing position (I mean, because you have your arms up here). And you will not all the time walk with arms up. Maybe, do this temporary alternation with pins and then take a pic and look? I love how it looks in 4. .

It's a huge improvement, but still not a 10 to me... I have problems like this with clothes all the time due to lack of height and bustiness. It is frustrating! It is such an adorable dress; it almost looks vintage.

Sadly, I've got to agree with Anna and San... the fabric still looks clingy in pic4, even though it is miles better than pic 1. Add to that the fact that it is expensive to start with, and I think you can get a better bang for your buck. :T

I would suggest trying different under garments to smooth the middle but then it is still so loose in the armholes. The style could really look good on you but this dress isn't made to fit your body and the fabric looks clingy. I think there is a good chance that it will become a closet orphan.

You need a petite size, that torso is too long on you. Of course Zara doesn't make petites. Zara stuff never fits me unless it is a complete waist surrender style, their fit models must all be 5'11". I think it is a risky alteration, you just can't guarantee that you'll get the exact results that you want out of it.

Totally worth it. The color and fit are divine on you, once you fix the armholes. I am going to advocate for learning to fix this problem yourself with a needle and thread rather than take it to the tailor though - it's a pretty easy fix and you'll save a lot of money in the long run. I do it all the time (I have the same problem, as I am extremely short waisted...) and it's quite easy on this type of sleeveless garment. It's probably best if you can get someone to show you in person the first time though... I basically just fold down the extra bit and tack it down on the underside; no need to cut anything, so if you mess up you can just take the stitches out. Then press with an iron, and voila. If the garment is lined, it's a little trickier, because the lining may make it too thick without cutting the extra out.

I went back to the store and tried a medium, only to notice that it was just as clingy as the small. Dismayed, I decided to take it home anyway just to figure out what is going on. I know sizes are wacky these days, but I never take a large in anything, so I wondered if maybe it just isn't lying properly on me and if there is anything I can do about it.

Well, after getting home I realized I was just having my usual problem of gaping armholes. If I pinch off the extra armhole fabric, suddenly the clingy problem disappears. Is it worth it to alter? This was an expensive dress, especially for Zara. But it's cotton and the color is divine. Worth it? Pictures one and two are how it looks now, three and four show how it would look with the armholes taken up.

Now I wonder if I should go back to the small, though. Sigh. Why must it be so hard...
