I am seriously overwhelmed by the responses here (in a good way)!

Lyn, thank you for the encouragement Although I think my biggest worry is finding a pic of myself I'm happy with, the mirror is kinder to me than my camera, lol.

geargirl, thank you for that link! If ever there was a word that describes my feet (and me in general for that matter, lol), it's fussy. And you've given me a great idea with your suggestion about those wedges - I found some with the thicker soles that were still almost completely flat, now if I can find some to match my new pants... Plus, they'd actually make me that much taller, woohoo!

rae, thanks! It's a bit of a long story about the name, but a lot of people seem to like it :)
Thanks for the advice about breaking up the lines in the shoes, I'll definitely keep an eye out for that :)

I can't believe I'm actually excited about going shoe shopping again!!! It's been a while!

Welcome! I love your name!

I worry about my foot size a lot, too - 8.5-9 on a 5'4" frame. The other ladies have pretty much covered my strategies: low contrast between shoe and pants, covering up foot with bootcuts and flares, as much heel/wedge as you can take comfortably. I also find that any details around the middle of the foot (straps, laces, buckles) help break up that long line of foot that happens in flats.

I just want to add a thought...have you seen the blog "Barking Dog shoes?"
link: http://www.barkingdogshoes.com/newshoe/
Check the archives as there are some great recommendations for fussy feet.
Good luck!

Hi! I'm new to replying as well. Long-time lurker though. :)
In addition to the good advice above...Maybe try a small wedge? A 1" wedge will make your shoes look a bit smaller and I actually prefer the support with my fussy feet...

Welcome! The good thing about having bigger feet, is that if the shoe is matching the pants quite closely, it will extend your leg line and make you look taller! I actually look for shoes that make my feet look bigger. Mine are small and really wide, and the wideness makes them look even more squat. I look for almond or pointy toe shoes with a nice big long toe box. In your case, I would also advise an almond toe but with a small, not a long, toe box. Does that make sense?

Don't be worried about posting pics Jen- it seems daunting at first, but after that it is fun!
You can learn heaps from others on the forum, and even just through looking at yourself via the camera lens.

Thank you all for such a warm welcome! I've really been enjoying my lurking ;)

And thanks for the advice on the shoes! It seems so logical now that you've said it, I don't know why it never would've occurred to me before! Clearly I am not the fashionista I wish I was, lol.

If I get the guts (and can get a few pics I'm happy with), I'll be sure to post some pics of my new outfits once they arrive - sans shoes for now

Welcome!

So, for the shoe question, I'm thinking a round-toe shoe in a low-contrast colour might be what you're after.

Hi and welcome! Your new fall items sound really exciting! I agree with Sarah, that a shoe that doesn't call attention to itself might be best, low contrast with the hems of your pants.

I think I would just stick with a low contrast shoe - that is similar in color or at least doesn't contrast with your pants. For bootcuts, Angie recommends a perfect pants length that nearly covers your shoe (i.e., is 1/8" off of the floor), so much of your footwear would be covered. Given that and a low contrast, I should think that your feet will look great.

ETA: Welcome!

Ok, so first off, Hello from the new girl! I tend to be kind of the quiet type, so I haven't posted much since finding this place, but I've been reading up quite a bit, and WOW! So nice to see such a helpful supportive group!

So after reading many of your posts here, and the blog as well, I was inspired to do a bit of online clothes shopping last night, with an agenda. Two things I've never done before! I bought 8 or 9 pieces altogether for my new fall wardrobe, that hopefully I can mix & match (including some orange and blue - branching out!) and get some decent mileage out of.

I do have a question regarding footwear, and there's a pre-cursor: I have large (size 9) flat feet, so I have to wear orthotics, which usually puts me into a size 10. Not flattering for a short girl I used to be able to hide it by wearing heels, but I can no longer do that due to a hip injury, so it's flats only for me. I bought a couple pairs of boot cut pants, what should I get to wear with them that might help hide the boaty-ness?

Thanks in advance!
