You have both blazer and cardi girl in you suz!! Also ponte/knit jackets great for travel. Sorry I didn't mention but I do have a back up on the Gibson and I still wear the original but it's far from pristine. But I tend to treat the new one as previous now. And being the type A advance planner I am looking to the day when that will be too "loved" and like the velveteen rabbit need to be retired. So I'm trying to find more in that niche to extend its life and give me more options. Have you tried any iro jackets suz? I find they run small but quality is really lovely and different in style and feel from most brands.

Oh, I love that fringed jacket!!

I know exactly what you mean about the crossover qualities that are most needed. You are describing my own perfect jacket. Gibson, people!! Make another one!!

Hmm. I wonder if any forum members still have the old jacket and are not wearing? It's possible.... or ebay....

All these cardigans I am lately looking at? If I had the right knit jacket, I wouldn't even consider them.

Thank you so much again Angie and Suz. You are both SUCH sweethearts!! Big hugs!! Angie there is absolutely nothing wrong with any of those blazers, they are lovely....however, the Gibson filled a niche that is almost unobtainable. Why you ask...well I'm a blazer girl which means I need blazers that can be worn in warm and cold weather and blazer not so ruthlessly formal and businessy that they look wrong with chinos and casual shoes (and this from the princess of juxtaposition). What made the Gibson Riding jacket so extraordinary was first the cut. Cutaway jackets are rare, the single button, perfect narrow swallowtail created the most flattering line ever and the length was perfect for both dresses and pants (a rarity as you know). The ruched bracelet sleeves were incredible flattering but made it hot weather appropriate and gave a more casual elegance and did not fall down like scrunching and rolling sometimes do. The ponte/knit fabric said casual while the uber formal styling said POLISHED - perfect to skew dressy to casual. The tailoring was extraordinary for the price point. That jacket fit plumb. The above blazer are beautiful but more formal and heavier in visual weight and none create the silhouette that the cutaway styling does. I may break down and try the JP brushed fleece long jacket, even though it's unlined and historically I find his fabrics poor quality for the price point, but it has that dressed down but uber polished vibe. I think most people choose a sweater or jacket where I alway pick a blazer. But this niche category is very hard to fill. I do think the VB Kennedy jacket has the closest line but the polished almost silk poplin feel is heavier and more formal but very pretty and can skew even dressier, which is not bad for me but still does not totally fill the niche. So that's the dilemma. I also have this Iro Shivani Fringed jacket is like a boucle swacket for lack of a better word. French casual and is the other that currently fills this slot but can be too dressy if that's possible. But thank you both again. I so appreciate all your input!!

Gryffin, I can't tell you how many people mourn the Gibson riding jacket. I WISH they made an update. What's wrong with these designers!

LOOK. Two more long lined blazers for you, sweet Gryffin.

Suz - thank you. I did look at that jacket. I do wear shorter jackets w dresses and jeans. It's a little maximal for me. Historically I love that type of look. But reality it sits in the closet. I think it's very stunning. But but I'm going to admire it on others.

I had a sneaking suspicion that the Vince would not drape well. I'm not going to try it. I ordered the everlane oversized unstructured coat in grey which is on sale. I bought the cocoon man coat in black which I'm really looking forward to wearing. I'm hoping this is a little lighter in weight and that the sleeves will be wide enough. Did you order the Burberry? I was the size 2&4 popped back?

I wonder if you 'd like the VB moto? Not your usual, for sure, and navy not grey...but sort of gives a grey impression. Tho' the proportion might be all wrong for you if you prefer a long jacket.

So frustrating when you are looking for something specific and think you see it only to learn the quality is off.

Thats so frustrating Jill when things are just not quite right. Unfortunately some designers don't but for our exact bodies. So disappointing when you love their aesthetic!!

I love that James Perse Jacket but always feel I'm between their size 2 and 3. I'm neither a standard 4 nor a standard 10. I wish they had a size that would be more like a standard 6/8.

Thank you so much Angie. Your info is so appreciated. I was afraid of that. I just donated one of the Vince sweater coats which was beautiful but so fussy I never wore it. I did see the JP fleece. It looks really nice but unlined is usually a deal breaker. Still mourning that Gibson has not made a new riding jacket. Gosh the best $100 blazer ever. Saw your note on the VB blazer. I bought the VB Kennedy on sale as a replacement for the Gibson jacket. For the money I don't think it compares w the quality of smythe, helmet Lang (old) or theory. But my jacket does not have those issues. Wonder if it's because of production for the sale. You'd know best. I'm sure you'll be aghast but even I think I have enough plain long black jackets (for now). Looking for grays, and weaves w black, white, gray. Sorry smelling salts to follow!! Good luck with the sale. Hoping the pleasure outweighs the fatigue. Hugs and love!!

Gryffin, MISSED YOU. Great to see you.

I wear coats over jackets too. High five.

YES. Tried both toppers on clients. Not so fab. The hooded style will not lie flat and in place in the front. Fussy, and un-polished, although it is beautifully made and the fabric is sublime.

The second is KNITWEAR, not a coat.

Try these, and did you see the long blazer?

Hi Angie -

I was wondering if any of your clients had tried on the two vince toppers? I have an unusual issue. First I always wear a blazer or topper (some heavy enough to be considered a light coat). Second I often need a light coat over that first layer, but many coats, even though roomy, have high cut arm holes and narrow sleeves that make it difficult to wiggle into. I have an EF icons felted wool topper, the kimono styling, that works but the fabric makes it not as polished and formal as I like. If you saw the two below, I would love your thoughts on them. Is the cardigan coat felted wool or more a sweater (which I'm not looking for)? Is the reversible black/gray coat elegant dramatic or just too much fabric. Many thanks and hope you are enjoying the frenzy and making much time for tea and cake breaks!!
